“Awesome location and charming B&B!”
Reviewed 29 January 2013

Wonderful location, conveniently located to shopping and restaurants, superb service, charming B&B nestled in the middle of the action. Warm cookies being served at the front desk was a real treat as well as midday snacks, beverages, and of course, breakfast. Will return again!

we had a great stay there last Saturday night, short but sweet trip to my beloved hometown of C'ville. Great room, perfect breakfast, and convenient to all the places we needed to be on the downtown mall. Usually stay w/ friends when in town, but wanted to do something special. Had the best time EVER in C'ville & to think I lived there 19+ years. Totally recommend 200 South Street Inn. 1st time staying there & by all means will again! Great place to stay for business or pleasure (many of my wedding clients have stayed there & all loved it too!).

Room Tip: Doing this from memory..I think it was room 21 in the cottage, nice cozy & loved the whirlpool t...

My husband and I loved our 1 night stay here -- from the cookies when we arrived, to the fireplace making our room nice and toasty, to the cheese and wine before our evening outing -- everything was lovely and well-organized. The room was cozy and romantic, not overly-furnished or decorated, and had a whirlpool bath. The staff members were pleasant and happy to provide info on the area. It was just a couple of blocks walk to the pedestrian mall, but there were also several good restaurants and bars even closer! We ate at the place practically next door and enjoyed a nice meal. Breakfast was a variety of sweet breads, fruits, and cereal (plus they let us take some cookies for the road! :) And as we were heading out Sunday morning, we discovered a thriving farmer's/community market taking place just across the street (I believe the sign said it runs from spring all the way until the end of December, when we were there).

I would LOVE to give this B&B 5 stars -- the ONLY thing I can complain about is the train line that runs right behind the houses. It did indeed wake me at least 4 times during the night. Luckily, my husband and I are quick to fall asleep so it was not a big problem, but for anyone who has trouble sleeping it would probably not be ideal. We were in the back of the main house on the ground level, and as one reviewer mentioned a room at the front of the house might have been much quieter. But if this is not a deal breaker for you, I highly recommend the South Street Inn! I want to go back just to have a romantic weekend getaway and enjoy those delicious cookies.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a fireplace for winter visits... they are delightful!

All good, great place to stay! Will definitely return when in Charlottesville. Wine and cheese, continental breakfast, and, of course, those cookies were all most welcome perks. Fireplace, whirlpool tub most appreciated. Very comfy bed and room-darkening blinds-could have snuggled in forever. The owners have had this Inn for 20 years and you can definitely tell that it is much loved.

Had a nice stay on a Saturday in room eight - fireplace, whirlpool tub and all. Huge cookies on arrival, wine and cheese in the evening, and a tremendous spread for breakfast - everything home- baked as far as I could tell. Easy walk to the downtown mall area and local shops and restaurants. Very clean and nice people.

Room Tip: This is an old house with fairly steep stairs. Get a room on the first floor if this is an issue.

The large main house was built in 1856 for a family, later converted to a bordello (the history & renovation pix are in the library). I was there when the $110/night specials were being run in Dec. & Jan. -- during the week only 3 rooms were booked. It was perfect. Yes, the house creaks and things are old, but it was very clean & quite elegantly furnished. Yes... the train does come thru in the middle of the night and shakes the whole house -- it adds to the atmosphere. If you live in a vinyl village S/D and you require sterile & quiet surroundings when you travel (including 10 electrical outlets in your room and a marble vanity in your bathroom), by all means book the Omni or the Hampton while in C-Ville -- you will be much happier, and so will the 200 South owners. To me it was like visiting Grandma's house... if Granny lived on the CSX and was a hooker. So much history & charm... and I walked everywhere (I'm almost 70) on the nearby historical outdoor mall -- good restaurants. Imagine reading the Jon Meacham book about Jefferson with a fire in your fireplace in your room. Desk people were lovely -- Annette even called Monticello for me to get an idea of the best time for me to go for the tour. Library/breakfast/wine&cheese room was comfy... with overflow downstairs. You will need to carry your bags up a flight even to the 1st floor -- there are stairs everywhere. If booked solid, there could be parking issues & noise issues on creaky floors above you. It is a very old house in a terrrific location in the historic section -- if that appeals to you, you will have a wonderful time. Otherwise don't even consider it. BTW, I am not sure I would pay $300/night to stay here -- I will have to debate that with myself if I go to C-Ville again during peak season... but I would go up to $250 just for the fun it all.

Room Tip: Try to stay in a front room away from the RR tracks, if possible.

We went here for a birthday weekend for 4 adults. It was exactly what we wanted. The Inn is charming and romantic. We stayed in Suite 24 which had a fireplace in the room and a step- down sitting area which was perfect for having a cocktail with our friends before dinner. The location was great for restaurants and shopping - within walking distance. Besides the historical sites, there are many wineries. We visited a winery owned by Dave Matthews! It was beautiful and only about 15 minute drive away. BONUS: The proprieter was always baking in the kitchen and it smelled lovely every time we entered. There were fresh-baked breads, scones, etc. in the morning and cookies all day!

Room Tip: If you'd like extra room, suite 24 is nice since it has a step-down sitting room.
