“Amazing Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Diana made it so easy to be gluten free without any previous notice! She just happened to have made a batch of flourless chocolate cookies. After she saw how happy that made me, she made a batch of flourless coconut macaroon cookies the next day and always had a gluten free option (bread or english muffin) in the mornings. All of the employees were wonderful and accommodating. The room was very comfortable and clean! We couldn't have had a better weekend.

It's not often that a b&b/inn, especially one as charming as the south street inn, can accommodate a family with school aged children. We were able to have the most lovely room, connected to a sitting room with a pull out couch for our kids. The staff was incredible- so warm and very helpful. The breakfast was perfect. Our picky eaters loved it but it was great for the adults as well. The wine and cheese hour was a wonderful way to wind down after a busy day of touring and gave us a chance to meet some of the other guests. They were from all over the world and we found ourselves spending much more time than we had anticipated. That said, if you are one that does not enjoy the "communal nature" of a b&b, the south street is also for you as the rooms are wonderful and it is easy to come and go and do what you please without feeling the need to engage in long conversations. The best part...the cookies! Fresh hot delicious and always available. We are having a party for my children in a few months. Our stay at south street was 9 months ago, yet when I asked them about the menu, they asked if we could get the cookies from the south street!

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the location ideal. My favorite part of the visit was the wine and cheese hour. The wine selection was very impressive and not the usual grocery store options. The cheeses were also higher end selections. The breakfast and homemade cookies are delightful!
The only disappointment was the very loud train behind the inn that literally shook my room.

The South Street Inn is our favorite place to stay in Charlottesville. The warm and welcoming staff makes sure that your weekend away meets expectations. We've often had the room upgraded -- most recently from a cozy smaller room to a lovely room with whirlpool tub and fireplace. The breakfasts are yummy -- homemade breads and granola. The wine and cheese at night allows for some quiet conversation before heading to the Downtown Mall for dinner. The location is perfect by the way.

We love the South Street Inn. Run by a delightful couple and staffed with people who are so helpful. The inn is tastefully appointed and the food is divine!
If you're going to be in Charlottesville, whether for a football game, wedding, or just a weekend getaway, this is the place to stay.

when we rounded the bend on South Street in Charlottesville, I was impressed with the two historical yellow houses that make up the inn. The mere smell of the freshly baked oatmeal chocolate signature cookies tells you of your whole stay here. You are pampered from the moment you arrive. After checking into our charming room, we went down to the library room where a very generous happy hour was displayed. There were chilled bottles of good white wine, a variety of cheeses, fruit and crackers. There was never a shortage and guests retreated to the porch, patio and all over the house to enjoy. Breakfast is a delight, too, as baker Diana adds plate after plate of her famous sweet breads. There are lots of choices. A wonderful 2 days here and we couldn't have been more delighted to find this gem.

The trains thunder by, both buildings shake - and there are many trains all night long, and also at late-afternoon nap time. Some fellow guests from California told us they first thought it was an earthquake. Our room was at the front overlooking the street but that did not help with the shaking. Yes, the location is good and furnishings are pretty. I often stay at B&B's and keenly felt the lack of a nice gathering place at this one. There is no large parlor, just a smallish room where breakfast is served and which became a bit claustrophobic when many people were in it.
