“Nice place, right near downtown mall”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

We stayed at 200 South Street this past week, and enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and friendly, continental breakfasts good, nice wine and cheese in late afternoon. Staff were very friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants, places to visit. Everything worked: plumbing, HVAC, WiFi, etc.
A few quibbles: The furnishings blur the line between "antique" and "rickety." We had a tippy table, a wardrobe with an inoperable door, and a wobbly chair in our room. There is very little common space for hanging out or eating, especially if the weather doesn't favor using the nice wraparound porch. It seems like someone in the past made a decision to turn all available space into guest rooms, rather than leaving a parlor as common space. Breakfast and afternoon food selection were exactly the same assortment all three days we were there. Very good, but boring. This place is larger than most B&Bs -- 20+ rooms, so I guess it has to be run more like a hotel. And then there are the trains, very long freight trains, right behind the backyard fence, day and night but not too frequent.

Room Tip: Go for the front of either building, away from the trains.

My room was clean and stylish. The inn has a great location near the downtown pedestrian mall. They serve a wonderful breakfast. I spoke with a number of other guests at the wine and cheese reception and at breakfast, and the people were all a pleasure. This place is a winner!

Great hospitality at this charming B&B. Loved the fresh-baked goods, ample porch space, and location. Our room (Room 12) was spacious and clean, although lacking in any closet space whatsoever (the linen cabinet did not have a hanging rack). Large flat screen was wall-mounted with premium cable. Good water pressure.

We just spent a few wonderful days in Charlottesville and were lucky to find this Inn. It is located within walking distance of everything we wanted -- history, restaurants, open market, shopping...yet it has the feel of a home. The breakfast was all healthy, fresh and home baked, the rooms were clean, charming and spacious and the staff was cheerful and knowledgeable. Couldn't ask for a better stay.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend as part of a gift we had received. The staff was super friendly. The light breakfast was deliciously homemade. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The happy hour on Friday and Saturday night was a nice treat. We enjoyed out wine and cheese in the deck while people watching and playing board games. Very relaxing!

Love this inn. Enjoy the rooms with a fireplace. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Wonderful assortment of baked goods and fruit for breakfast, and cookies are available all the time. Location is perfect - short walk to many shops and great restaurants. As noted in other reviews, there are train tracks, but the sound has never been a problem for us.

If you are coming to Charlottesville, this is the place to stay. It's away from the University but very close to shopping and dining. As most reviews note, there is a train track right behind the Inn but it's not an issue. Travelers just need to expect the sound and vibrations that accompany the train once in the evening. The hosts are so very friendly. If you like meeting new people this is the place to have a continental breakfast and sit for a spell.

Room Tip: No elevator so plan to carry your bags up a flight or two. The parking is limited; could be a probl...
