“Independent Inn--Welcome Suprise Incredibly staff”
Reviewed 14 June 2012

This inn was a very welcome surprise. It has lots of charm as a one of a kind small hotel. Very interesting touches including their lounges and meeting rooms.

Large pool. Nice complimentary breakfast.

What sells this inn is the staff who are very welcoming and eager to help. We received personal attention and advice to make our trip more enjoyable.

I enjoyed the ambiance and knowing we were supporting small business owners rather than a chain.

I was traveling with a group of twenty, and we were all delighted with the charm and uniqueness of the inn, and the exceptional staff.

I highly recommend this inn for anyone traveling to or through Charlottesville.

Room Tip: Large variety of rooms, so call and speak to the staff to discover what will work best for you.

Booked the room at English Inn based on TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. Front desk person is the first impression you get of a hotel and Megan set the tone. She was extremely nice and helpful upon learning mom and I were in town for a hot air balloon trip, she moved us to another room away from the 10 yr old softball team. Check out was no different with General Manager Mark. The stay was so enjoyable that I inquired about availability for the end of the month getaway. Only one large room was available which I commented was too much for a couple for one evening. He did not hesitate and did his best to accommodate our preference. Customer service at its finest!

Complimentary coffee/tea bar in the lobby and fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. The lobby is very charming. Breakfast goes beyond the standard continental with scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy, muffins, fresh fruit, coffee and juices. The mini king suite was spacious, clean and comfortable. Location is a convenient short and easy drive to area attractions. A true find!

My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were in the new section which had an attractive inner courtyard, and the room was clean, spacious, and at a good price ($130/night). The staff was very helpful and polite to a fault, the breakfast was tasty and diverse, the location good, and the neighborhood safe. We'd certainly stay there again.

We arrived and found that the double room we were in was right next to the pool. We were concerned about the noise in the mornings but the hotel was out of doubles and couldn't move us. So the front desk clerk, Lindsey, was nice enough to upgrade us to a suite for only 7 bucks more a night! Very nice!

Great location with excellent service and clean rooms. The only draw back was our room was a bit dated, especially the bathroom(c. 1980s). However, I thought that was a minor inconvienience compared to the room being very clean and quiet.

Recently stayed two nights. While obviously not new, the room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was one of the best I've had, and there is a continuous free coffee bar available in the charming lobby, along with a tea service w/ fresh cookies in the afternoon. There is an indoor pool as well. Location was close to many restaurants, shops, etc., and near what serves as a "loop" highway around the City. Definitely recommend.

Hotel physical plant over all is good...clean, comfortable spacious, well lighted. MY stay was only on a holiday weekend, so confusion at the front desk may have been the result of time off for the first team. The hotel apparently does not email confirmation of confirmations, so I only found out about a problem with dates off by one day when I called backed to reserve a second room.

Maid service must end before late afternoon,, so let them work on your room in the morning!...maybe while you enjoy the buffet breakfast!
