“An Excellent Value for Price in the Perfect Location for a UVA Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

My wife and I have stayed at the Cavalier Inn many times and find it an excellent value for the money - especially for family and friends visiting students at the University of Virginia. This UVA-themed hotel has a staff who is very receptive and accommodating; the management is personable and friendly, and the accommodations are better than expected for the price. Charlottesville accommodations tend to be pricey...but not at the Cavalier Inn. With a hearty breakfast, a weight room in the hotel, free WIFI throughout the facility, and refrigerators and microwaves included in its low price -- with free parking (even underground) adjacent to the grounds of UVA, there truly is no better value than the Cavalier Inn. We recommend this friendly place without a doubt.

We stayed here for parents' weekend because we couldn't find another room. Many of the reviews were not very good, but we had no other choice. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was large, clean and quiet. The wireless internet was great and free. Other reviewers complained about the street noise, since it is directly at the corner of Emmet and Ivy. Our room was on the Emmet Street side. The balcony was enclosed by plexiglass, so there was virtually no street noise. The bathroom was decent. The best thing was its location, right across the street from Grounds, and a short walk to Central Grounds. The one complaint was that the air conditioning didn't work. Fortunately the nights were cool, so it wasn't a big problem. Except for that, everything was fine. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Also, there is a free breakfast which was decent, but not much else. Finally, the price was right. I would stay here again, on the Emmet side. I don't know what the noise is like on the other side.

Room Tip: Get a room on the Emmet street side.

This is an older hotel but rooms are nice and clean. It was a good rate for a visit this Summer. Pet friendly. We will stay here again. Free parking. Great location. Easy access to campus and restaurants and shopping. Only complaint, Front Desk Staff was not very nice and busy gossiping about other employees while attempting to check in. Also, when I asked about local restaurants and bars. They told me "everything here is a chain, like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebees". The housekeeping staff was super nice and helpful.

We certainly thank you and appreciate you taking time out to review your stay with us, we take all of the comments and suggestions we receive seriously to that we can make all of our guests stay a pleasant one, it was unfortunate that some of our staff acted unprofessional at check in, this is not indicative of the service we like to present our guests with, your comments are sincerely important to us,. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and I hope you will try us again in the future to see that is not how we operate. We wish you the very best in your future travels.

There's nothing fabulous about the Cavalier Inn. It's just a great bargain in a good location with clean, comfortable rooms, a perfectly good breakfast and easy access with no muss or fuss coming in or out. Yes, our a/c made an awful lot of noise whenever it clicked on. The clock over the elevator doors on our floor showed the wrong time. The spigot in the bathtub/shower was loose and rotated when you lifted the shower valve. And the housekeeper never replaced the tissue box in the dispenser on the sink counter, which had one tissue left in it when we checked in. But for $79 a night, free parking, free breakfast, and otherwise perfectly good accommodations this was just fine. We weren't in C'Ville to spend time in our room anyway. Liked the fact it is UVA-owned and a lot of UVA kids, parents and alumnae were coming and going.

Room Tip: Quieter on the Emmet Street (east) side and a nicer view too.

I stayed here because of the proximity (walking distance) to UVA grounds and Rotunda, and "the Corner." I was very happy with the staff, the breakfast, the room, etc. It is not luxurious, but it is more than adequate. I know it gets pricey on football and Parents' weekends - but the regular rate is very reasonable. I would recommend it to friends without reservation.

Room Tip: Probably better to stay on the side NOT facing busy Emmet Street. But do be prepared for some nois...

The Cavalier Inn in Charlottesville is not one of my favorite hotels. It is on Emmett Street in Charlottesville and the rooms are not well-insulated from noise. While it could suffice as a place to sleep--the air conditioning was noisy; and the balconies reverberate quite loudly when people walk by to their rooms. The room was relatively clean. The people at the desk, however, were very nice. If noise doesn't bother you, then this place is okay. I much prefer the Hampton, Fairfield, Holiday and Doubletree Inns in Charlottesville. Look if you are on vacation spend the extra $40 bucks for a better night of sleep at these other places. If that isn't in your budget, the Cavalier is convenient.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I am sorry that you felt the noise level in the rooms bothered you, as we are right on campus and the main intersection of campus we do have traffic infront of the hotel, you can usually only here when an ambulance goes by, other than that nothing, sometimes when we have large wedding parties which we get a lot of, they can be noisey coming back in for the evening, we try to catch them and ask for them to be quite.
Thank you again for taking the time out to let us know about your stay. We wish you the best in your future travels
