“Perfect for visiting the University”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

The location couldn't have been better for doing research at the library and special collections building. The room was clean and, on the 3rd floor, quiet. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with lots of options. My only complaint was that the tv picture was snowy but still watchable. I'll definitely stay here again on my next research trip. The breakfast staff were very friendly.

Run by the University of Virginia, this hotel is right next to the campus. It is within walking distance of different University departments, the Jefferson Rotunda, and shopping malls. As a three-day guest from abroad with no car this location was ideal. The rooms maintenance is average but functional. Room (No. 221) was quiet. Breakfast always had several options. There are no dining facilities but many restaurants are nearby. The good wifi connection was a boon. The complimentary railway station drop was useful.

We stayed here for my son's wedding at the UVA chapel. You can't beat the location for getting to the chapel and could easily walk to and from The Corner. The staff was friendly and allowed us to check in early so we could relax and enjoy the rehearsal dinner. The breakfast was good and convenient. We have stayed here many times in the past and could tell there have been some upgrades, especially the mattress. Our only complaint was the lack of a comforter/blanket on the bed. It only had 2 layers of sheets with a thin blanket. Although it was summer, I was glad I brought an extra blanket, as my husband likes the AC on at night. Overall a good experience and will be back again!

I've stayed at the Cavalier Inn several times for weekends in Charlottesville. It is always clean and well maintained. It has a helpful staff, great location, and a consistent free breakfast. Really you get what you pay for - It is an old motel with some sides enclosed now - don't expect a 5 star hotel.
This past stay was of particular note, and it prompted me to write this review. After our first night at the hotel, we woke up to water leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom. We told the person and the front desk and she was incredibly nice about the situation. She apologized, immediately offered us a room right down the hall, and offered to help move our stuff.

Room Tip: A room on Emmet St is enclosed, so you won't have to talk through the elements, but there might...

My husband and I stayed at the Cavalier for two nights while on our "babymoon" in Charlottesville. Although the hotel is conveniently located to UVA's campus and near stops for the free downtown trolley, we were appalled by the service. We had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door from about 12:30 until 1 or 1:30pm while we ate lunch and cleaned up for the afternoon, and our room was not serviced by 4pm that afternoon. When I inquired at the front desk I was told that we'd missed our chance and the room would not be cleaned. Instead of being apologetic, the staff interrogated us about how long the "DND" sign had been up and what exactly we expected to have done (as if we were making an unreasonable demand by requesting our trash be emptied, bed made and towels replenished). The hotel finally agreed to service our room, but only begrudgingly and all the while making us feel like we were causing a huge problem with such an "unreasonable" request. Instead of feeling like a guest at this hotel we felt unwelcome and treated rudely. With so many affordable and conveniently located options in Charlottesville we will NOT be returning to The Cavalier.

We found it to be a nice hotel. We checked in by a friendly staff. Went up to a very clean room. Staff was very friendly from the front desk to the rest of the staff. It was a great location. Close to Monticello.

The Cavalier Inn near the University of Virginia is an older hotel with a great location. After that it goes downhill. The AC in our room could not be adjusted. It is just an outdated hotel with a friendly staff but needs a lot of upgrades to raise the level of comfort. The location is perfect but that is all I can say in terms of positives.

Room Tip: If you want a great location to the University and surrounding area this is perfect. Beyond that it...
