“Must See”

Plan to include Mulberry Row in your visit to Monticello. You can't really get the whole picture of this time period without trying to imagine what it was like for everyone.

“Not a lot to see”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

This tour is free with your ticket to Monticello, but as others have noted, there are just a few ruins to see. The garden area of Mulberry Row itself is quite beautiful, filled with huge vegetables. I was surprised at the fertile soil here, given its redness. It was raining the day we were here and the path was very muddy and filled with large puddles.

“History revealed”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

This is part of Thomas Jeffersons Monticello. And a very historical aspect filled with the respect that it deserves. The tour was fact filled and extremely interesting. The tall mulberries in which you walk beneath allow one to transport themselves back to the day they were planted and the maps that lay out the positions of the homes and the building where they worked gave fact to the hard work promoted in this section of the property.

“Mulberry Row-well worth the time”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

This tour is included with the price of admission to Monticello. It is well worth the 45-50 minutes. Our guide was most informed, friendly & enjoyed what his duties. He didn't avoid any of the unpleasant topics or questions related to the times. Plan on taking the tour before viewing the house. Very informal tour as you are pretty much allowed to come & go as you please. The guide will discuss servant/slave quarters & the types of lives they were documented to have lived on Monticello.
