“Good for location and now with sushi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

Although the restaurant has a Charlottesville address, it is located in Crozet. If you don't want to drive to Charlottesville, this restaurant located in a small "strip" (with Dominos and other restaurants, along side with a credit union and businesses) is worth a try. The prices are reasonable and I have had good dishes, just not memorable - lo mein, chicken and beef entrees. I try different dishes and so far, not one worth recommending, but I didn't hate any either. They now offer sushi and I thought for lunch, the price can't be beat for what they give you. I think with all chinese restaurants, it depends on what you have tried, what you like and what you are willing to pay for. I recommend for the convenience if you are near the area (especially from Nelson County area) but don't want to drive to Cville.

“Nothing special here”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012

Two of us ate dinner at the Tea House. Service was only below average. The servers were two 20 year olds who were more interested in each other than their tables. We had two different meals, a pork and veggie plate and a shrimp and noodles plate, but the sauce on both were the same. We'll be back in this area (close to Crozet, VA) but will skip the Tea House in the future.

“Nice little Chinese restaurant in Crozet”

Across from the Harris Teeter, this small Chinese restaurant offers traditional Chinese dishes. Nothing fancy. Just good Chinese food at a reasonable price.

“Above-Average Chinese west of Charlottesville”

Where do I go for Chinese take-out? Tea House. Very friendly and family-run. The BEST chicken egg foo yung imaginable. Not greasy. Nice shrimp and fresh pea pods. Check out the nightly specials.

“Driver, pass by”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2011

This is a poor version of the old-fashioned American-style Chinese restaurant. If you're headed east, you can find a good version of the same thing 15 minutes down the road (Rt 250, then turn left on Emmet St., to Panda Garden, which has an inexpensive lunch buffet). If you want high quality Chinese food, Charlottesville has that at Taste of China or Peter Chang's, and Waynesboro's got a couple of cheap buffets that are no worse. I really wish the Tea House were good--we live nearby, and if it were even OK we'd go there often. I went when they first opened and wanted to believe that bad food and service were just because they were new, but on my return visit several months later the food hadn't improved at all, and though the service had become a bit more friendly, it still wasn't attentive. For the quality, the $10-$12 dinner prices (specials are higher) are not a good deal, and the $6 lunch specials aren't much better. My "Orange Chicken" was breaded bits with uncertain contents floating in a brown sauce, with 3 cold pieces of broccoli alongside, and a separate bowl of dark-colored rice--I can't say for sure it was meant to be "fried rice," as it had no distinct flavor. Looking around, i thought other diners' plates looked pretty similar: stuff floating in thick sauce. The young folks who were serving seemed sweet enough, and I wish them well, but there's no reason for food to be this lousy. There's a great place (Pesto) in the same little shopping center, plus a chain pizza shop and a decent local sandwich place (Otto's), and in the shopping center across the street there's a really good Thai place (Bangkok 99). You'd have to be desperate for Chinese food RIGHT THEN AND THERE in order to need to go to the Tea House.
