I'm jealous about how all the other reviews talk about the amazing service they received, because that certainly was not the case for me. There were two other tables eating while we were there (with a total of 5 other people) and two waitresses. We ordered the dinner for two, which came with several different dishes, and while excellent, each took a very long time to come. At one point, my brother even asked me if I thought the waitresses weren't just serving the food, but cooking it as well. They really weren't that friendly, but rather I got the feeling that they had no desire to even be there. I never saw either of them smile. The next day, my brother was talking to a friend of his about the place, and said that they've had similar experiences, and have since stopped going.

I'll have to go back, since it seems that my experience and my brother's friend's experiences seemed to be out of the norm.

Received a coupon and since it was close to campus decided to give it a try. Our daughter and her vegetarian roommate joined my Husband and I after a long grueling move-in day. We shared a sample appetizer and we each ordered different entrees and different sides. The sides came in little individual bowls and were all set in the center of the table making it nice for us all to sample the large variety of sides. I can say that I knew nothing after Afghan cuisine other than I could expect it to be "middle eastern". The food was a very mild flavor so I would guess it was toned down to better suit most American's taste for mild foods. Everything was very tasty. The Service was excellent and the restaurant was very nicely decorated. You would never know that it used to be an Italian Restaurant. There is a painting of the famous photo of the Afghan Girl that was on the cover of Time Magazine that you will see when you 1st come in. Small children are o.k. As a matter of fact a military dad who had served in Afghanistan brought his family so they could try some of the Afghan cuisine. By the time we were ready to leave, the restaurant had become quite busy, so you may want to check about reservations, especially if a big event is going on in town. I recommend this restaurant, especially if you like trying new cuisines.

There are several middle eastern places in C'ville, and this is by far the best. I've eaten here a few times and the fish, chicken, falafel and vegetable dishes are all delicious. Try the spicy fish kabob with a side of pumpkin. There are also rich but wonderful desserts. The service is always polite and enthusiastic. Strongly recommended.

I meet some family in Charlottesville and we all decided to try something different for lunch. We called ahead of time to verify hours and then had lunch at the Afghan Kabob Palace and were very pleasantly surprised. When we arrived there was only 1 other car in the parking lot so we were hoping we made a good selection. Upon entering the restaurant it was extremely clean throughout and a had a great feel to it. We were immediately greeted and seated. The hostess was also our server and she was fantastic. We were new to Afghani food so she was of great help and very patient with our many questions. She suggested a few things based on the type of food we liked because we had some vegetarians as well and she was spot on. She even brought out a sample of a few things we did not order that she felt would be something we might like to order for our next visit. The food was outstanding. The smells and flavors were great and the service was excellent. I will be back when I visit Charlottesville again. I am not sure if the server was the daughter of the owner or part of the ownership group and I fail to remember her name but I wish she is a great asset to the restaurant. Cheers!
