When in C'ville, we make sure to visit Now and Zen and are always amazed at the freshness and presentation of their sushi. We are former restaurant owners and appreciate the effort the sushi chef puts into each menu item. We are also sort of sushi snobs in that, if not "wowed" immediately, we go elsewhere (or just make our own from the local Japanese market). The quantity and quality of food served is simply outstanding. And what a value! In any other city, the same presentation would cha-ching your wallet at least double. If new to sushi, definitely ask for your server's recommendation on what to order. We do, anyway, and have been pleasantly surprised on how wonderful the server's advice was, especially on menu selections we would never have ordered on our own.
The restaurant itself is just OK, nothing fancy. Small dining room, not a lot of seating. One long table in the middle where you may be seated next to others, but we find most the interesting people in Charlottesville, well worth speaking to and enjoying the company of otherwise strangers. If you go frequently, as we do, look around at the variety of what others have been served and have some fun on something new to order.
