This uphill walk or run to the entrance of Monticello is one of the best maintained trails in the area and perfect for training. It is safe, clean, clearly marked and a joy.

Lovely grade, suitable for all ages and physical condition, with appealing S-bridges.

The only drawback is that busy highway 53 runs parallel to it and often only a couple hundred feet away so traffic noise is everpresent.

This is a great walking trail, with a gentle grade running from the bottom of Rt. 53, up to Monticello.

The trail is about 5 miles round trip, a perfect walk: not too steep and you can stop half way for a coffee or soft drink at the Monticello Visitor Center cafe. The trees, both in the forest and planted along the trail, are filled with beautiful flowers in the spring, lots of shade during the summer, blazing colors in the fall, and are starkly beautiful in the winter as well.
