A nice main trail that graduallt rises for a casual walk or run .
A few trails off the beaten path to get further in nature and very few people

This beautiful trail winds up the mountain all the way to Monticello so gradually you don't realize you are climbing. It is so well maintained and every potential difficulty is bridged or graded so that strollers and wheelchairs can operate fine. it's a favorite local running and walking trail. It is lovely any time of the year, but I especially so in spring when the mountain laurel, redbuds and dogwood are blooming. It's also an arboretum of sorts, with many labeled shrubs and trees.

This two-mile trail climbs steadily from its beginning near the intersection of Route 20 and Route 53 to the Monticello Visitors Center. There are no views of Monticello, but the trail passes behind historic Michie Tavern. The lower section has a play area for younger children which includes the base of a tulip poplar tree which used to stand on the lawn at Monticello. There is also a duck pond on a nearby side trail. Parking is sometimes difficult on weekend mornings.

We were on a trail hike with our 4 and 7 year old and 14 year old nephew. Stopped by BoDo's and had a nice lunch at Carter Mountain Overlook. A lot of easily accessible Geocaches for the kids, we had a great time!

This is a beautiful, nicely maintained trail. It is a steady, but not difficult climb up the hill to Monticello.
