We recently had dinner at the Whiskey Jar and the four of us in our party were less-than-impressed with the overall experience. The menu was basic and the food was of average quality; although there was nothing that stood out as particularly noteworthy or delicious, we had no complaints about the taste of any of our entrees. The service, however, was curt and nearly non-existent. A little warmth would perhaps have improved our experience.

We will try other establishments in the future.

Whiskey Jar strikes the perfect balance between upscale chic and and downhome goodness. Fresh beet salad with goat cheese was balanced sweet/tart to near perfection. Catfish, Brussel sprouts, and bacon hash worked extremely well together. We loved the hushpuppies and biscuits with sorgum and apple butter as an appetizer but should have requested that they come out with the meal. Fried Chicken w/ collard greens was good but the greens were a bit too mature for my taste. Great drinks menu to boot.

very cool indeed, the catfish sandwich is a tasty lunch and the bartenders are mellow. really happy with the location and site seeing on the pedestrian mall downtown, great places to go.

We started with an appetizer of Fried Oysters which were well seasoned and crispy on the outside!
Country ham biscuits, collard greens and mac and cheese along with some Va wines made for a wonderful meal. The apple cobbler was meant for 2 and had a delicious homemade bourbon ice cream. We met Rachel, the young lady that made the cobbler and dessert , and told her it was hands down our favorite dessert of any restaurant! Our server was Alyssa and we could not have asked for better service.

Love the fact that they use locally grown food and serve VA wines! Kudos to The Whiskey Jar!

We enjoyed this restaurant with a mix of young adults so they enjoyed the fried chicken, Mac and cheese while adults had Shrimp & Grits and salads. Mac and cheese is dangerous - order your own because you're not going to want to share it! Fried chicken was also very good - good crust and tender meat! Shrimp was cooked just right and grits were very flavorful. Brussel sprout hash was just ok...

Order the pecan pie - just do it! Wonderful pie! Service was very, very good!
