Owner description: A Charlottesville Food Tour is a fun, casual way to sample the sights, sounds, and tastes of downtown C'ville! Perfect for visitors to Monticello and Charlottesville, UVA students and their families, and those who live in the area/region who are looking for a new way to experience downtown! Over the course of 3 hours, we visit anywhere from 6 to 8 local restaurants and food retailers for samples and tastings of the best food and drink C'ville has to offer. Your ticket price includes all of the food and drink you'll have on the tour! We visit locally owned partners that source many of their ingredients and products from local farms and providers. Along the way, learn more about the great history, architecture, and culture that make Charlottesville such a great place to live, work, play...and eat!

“Great tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

My wife and I have done a couple food tours in larger cities before, but this was our first one in a town the size of Charlottesville. I surprised her for her birthday, and it worked out great.

We started at a local spice shop. We didn't try anything here, but we got to smell many different spices. The store owner described how the store was layed out, and all of the different spices she had us try. If you weren't hungry before this stop, you most certainly were afterward! Also, they offered a 10% discount to any food tour guests if they came back and bought spices after the tour, which we took advantage of.

Next, since we were in the morning tour, we stopped at a local coffee shop. The owner hand poured two different types of coffee, and we got a nutella and whipped cream covered waffle. Another very knowledgeable owner that was really passionate about their shop.

We continued with three different restaurants, all of which had a unique twist and were delicious. We also stopped at an outdoor stand that sells crepes, and even walked through the local farmers market. We ended the tour at a small bakery that focuses on cupcakes and cookies, and also has a fun story to go with their treats.

All of the food was delicious. Rachel and Pete were great, and they really made the tour a really fun experience where we also got to learn about the area. They have only been in Charlottesville for a little over a year, and they already know more about the history of the downtown area than I do! They knew their stuff, and found great places with knowledgeable owners and/or chefs. Now that we have done the morning tour, we might have to go back and do the afternoon one!

I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone that likes food. If you have recently moved to the area, are visiting, or just aren't that familiar with the downtown area, this is the perfect activity to do. My wife and I both live close to the downtown mall, and both work at locations on the mall, and we still had a blast!

“Fantastic afternoon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Went on this food tour while on a girlfriend weekend and we couldn't have enjoyed it more. Rachel, owner and tour guide was great - very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We ate at several restaurants that we would never have tried on our own, and ate some wonderful food that we would may never have ordered off of the menu. Everything was fresh, hot and tasty - especially loved the warm chocolate chip cookies with bacon from Brookeville. All of the owners/chefs came out to speak with us and gave us information about their food and restaurant. It was very informative but also personable. We now have several favorites to visit next time we are in Charlottesville. I would highly recommend this tour, it is really a nice way to spend an afternoon and enjoy some great food.

“Charlottesville Food Tour, a great way to spend the afternoon.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

We spent our 39th wedding anniversary enjoying the Charlottesville Food Tour,so we had high hopes for a great day. We chose the afternoon tour and were joined by our good friends (two couples). We were not disappointed. The tour was very nice. We live in the community and yet five of the seven establishments we had never been in before. It was very nice experiencing bites at each of these unique restaurants. Several of the restaurants also served an alcoholic tasting. I believe that most if not all of the restaurants we visited are locally sourced. We have Restaurant Week coming up in just a few weeks and we will definately be revisiting several of the restaurants we tried on our tour. Rachel opens the tour with some background of the downtown mall area and then it was off on our adventure. I would recommend this tour for locals as well as visitors.

Thank you for your feedback. It is unfortunate that your expectations were different from your experience. To provide clarification, all of the tour partners listed on the tour were visited. If you look on the bottom of the tour description page you will see the following statement, “Due to the use of locally sourced products, dishes/tastings may vary...but all will be equally mouth-watering! Tour stops and schedules may also vary.” In addition, this is why the beginning of the description says that guests will enjoy dishes “such as”. This variety, due to locally sourced seasonal ingredients, is why we have had many repeat visitors on our tours. In any case, thank you for joining us on our tour. We hope you had a terrific rest of your trip!
