This is a newer Residence Inn located in a great spot; very close to the pedestrian mall. Pet friendly (w/125 fee). Free washer/dryer (if you buy detergent at front desk). Ample parking. Our only complaint is that the elevators and hallways were always a bit warm on the 85 degree weekend we were there. The room has a large sign that says the AC is high efficiency. Basically, if it senses no movement, it will maintain 74+ degrees in room- way too warm for a 85 degree weekend when you want to cool down after walking around. Also a problem at night. Also, when you do come back and put that sucker on high fan and 65 degrees, it takes about an hour to bring the room down 1 degree, if you are lucky. For all the money they are saving on these high efficiency ac units the room rate should come down a bit. The hotel has a exercise room, bar, pool, and each room is a sauna on a warm weekend. The pet area outside is tiny and hadn't been mowed in a few weeks. Thankfully the Staples next door has some grass you can use. Unlike some other reviews, we found the front desk folks very friendly.

rchadd, thank you for choosing to stay at the Residence Inn Charlottesville Downtown and for sharing your experiences during your stay. I'm sorry that our energy efficient HVAC systems were not to your liking, there is certainly a fine line that we all walk as we strive towards sustainable systems. I will discuss your observations with our engineering department to determine if we could tweak the system towards better comfort.
Thanks also for your kind words in regards to our staff.

Great location, clean rooms, front desk was great, but no parking. We had to park in a different location but it was only a quick minute walk back to the hotel. We walked to breakfast in the downtown mall

We stayed one night in a one bedroom suite after a day at Monticello. The suite was clean and large and geared towards longer stays, with a stove and fridge. Location was perfect- we walked through the downtown shops and restaurants and had an excellent dinner at Lampo.

Make no mistake- this is a corporate hotel through and through, but one with a comfy bed and great shower and friendly, helpful employees.

If you are a UV Fan or a tourist looking for a great location to spend a couple of nights or more in Charlottesville consider the Residence Inn on West Main. Within walking distance of the downtown mall, which isn't your typical mall. It includes history great restaurants and shops supporting local artists. It is within walking distance of the UV campus.

Wishing walking distance to the downtown mall. Spacious lobby. Large rooms with plenty of space. Clean. Modern. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Charlottesville. Plus, there is a decent kitchen, which is a plus!
