We enjoyed everything about the hotel. We stayed there with our two children (ages 4 and 6) for a long weekend. I'd say the main selling points are:

1) The location could not be more convenient to Assateague Island. We were able to make several car trips over there throughout the day and easily come back for lunch/rest times. If you bring bikes, it's an easy bike ride.

2) It's very clean and well appointed for a hotel near the beach. The bathrooms couldn't have been cleaner. They clearly take care of things or have just recently renovated.

3) The indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. This was a big hit with the kids and the adults.

Other things...the complimentary breakfast was what you'd expect for a complimentary breakfast. Nothing fancy, but did the job. Our kids loved having the ponies in the pen across the parking lot. The customer service was good. We really had no complaints. We'd stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor facing the parking lot and pony pens. The advantage was the slidin...

Good continental breakfast. Rooms always clean. Nice furniture and comfortable linens. Right beside a pony pen. Closest to beach I think. Have a gift shop near front desk. Has an outlook over 2nd floor rooms at one spot.

We recently spent a weekend a the Refuge Inn and were very happy with all aspects of our stay. We had 2 rooms - a family 2 queen and a dlx. king. Both were spacious and clean. The Dlx. king was in a separate, small building behind the front desk. We had to go out of the building, and into another small building that only had 2 rooms. Our room faced in to the courtyard, where we saw many types of birds. We had a nice porch with comfortable Adirondack style chairs. The other room where the kids stayed was in the main part of the hotel on the first floor. It faced East towards the parking lot. Both views were very nice.
The pool was partially indoor and outdoor, and very clean. The water was nice and warm, and we enjoyed using it. There was an observation deck located on the roof of the hotel that gave us a nice vantage point over the wetland just next to the hotel. The location of the hotel is as xlose as you can be to the Refuge and seashore. We rented mopeds, and had a fantastic time riding from the hotel to the beach and into town.
the breakfast that was served was quite good - there were eggs, bagels, toast, oatmeal, cereals, juice, coffee, and tea. On Sunday they served french toast as well. The woman serving the breakfast was very accommodating and kind.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in this unique hotel. The architecture and design fit in very well with the surrounding area, and the natural beauty of Chincoteague.

The Refuge Inn is full of charm and has some of the best customer service I have ever seen.

The staff is incredibly friendly and if you leave some delicious pie from Bill's Seafood in your room's refrigerator after checking out, they will certainly understand your urgent need to get it back. The beds are comfy and TVs have ample channels. They do have a pool and a jacuzzi, both of which I still need to check out; I keep getting distracted by those birds and ponies. They also serve breakfast (yummy French toast!) and have free wi-fi.

Great staff, good rooms close to the beach and Main Street, really, there's not much more I want in a hotel in Chincoteague!

Room Tip: Room 10 has a Tempurpedic mattress!

We have visited Chincoteague for many years, previously staying with one of the big chain motels. We decided to change and are pleased we did. We immediately noticed the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Our room was decorated showing both craftsmanship and a high level of continuous maintenance. Breakfast included "waffle days" (delivered immediately from the kitchen) and other breakfast items. We traveled with another family of 5 (3 youth) who stayed in separate rooms. Having numerous picnic tables under the pines allowed us to carry back from a variety of places and organize. There are Chincoteague Ponies on the grounds that one can pet and/or feed. The Inn also rents bicycles on premise at a very reasonable $3 an hr. We were able to ride for a couple of hours each day very inexpensively to the nearby Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge. The Inn was a very convenient place to stay and we expect to do so again this fall.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want when reserving, they are very accommodating.

I love this place and have stayed there many times...winter, spring, fall & summer. Everything is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Close to places to eat and bike rentals. My youngest daughter and I even went on a mommy daughter weekend and had a great time in the pool and talking to the local kitties and ponies nearby. Free coffee all day too!

We went to Refuge for my Birthday celebration. I think the hotel is really great! they do a really nice job in decorating the rooms to make it feel special and different from a chain Hotel. The breakfast is about the same as most chain restaurants, maybe a little lacking.
The location is also very good, it's a short trip anywhere. They had a awesome pool and hot tub, it felt like you were at someones house not at a hotel. I will go back for sure!! I truly think it's the best place Chincoteague has to offer. My only complaint was the dripping sound from the AC unit which I told them about but I guess they couldn't fix, not a big deal, if you ran the AC you couldn't hear it anyway. Also the bathroom had a funky B.O. smell but they fixed that.

We did go to Assateague Beach everyday which was so beautiful, definitely a special beach. I love the fact that there are no homes or hotels behind you. There are bathrooms and changing areas which is a bonus but no concession stands. It's perfect ! We didn't really see the ponies like I thought we would, they are in the distance so bring binoculars!!

The food on the island is at best 3 stars, don't expect much. I'm picky so if you're not you'll be fine. The best ice cream was The Creamery, I liked Zacks OK and Bills was Good.

I can spend more time telling you about the places that weren't good but I won't!.

Room Tip: We had room 130 and I thought it was a great location, get one that faces the pool not the parking l...

Thank you for the good review! We are so happy you enjoyed your time on our little slice of paradise. Unfortunately, all PTAC units drip outside after they cool and dehumidify the room--just like window air conditioners--and tend to drip more when the humidity is high. Terribly sorry we couldn't do anything about the drips!

A new eatery has just opened up here on Chincoteague called the Jackspot. It's where the Chincoteague Inn used to be on Main Street, and all reports have been wonderful. They have a little bulkheaded beach area with awesome sunset views on the water. Perhaps you'd like to give them a try on your next visit. Hope to see you again soon.
