“Great Hotel with Fabulous Sunset Views”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Recently stayed here June 7th to the 9th 2014. What a great place, I used to stay here every year when my children were little, and they would love fishing off the dock and swimming in the pool, as I loved the garden, swing and hammock and the wonderful sunsets right from the deck off the room. My return visit was just as I remember, the place is clean as a whistle, pool nice size and very clean and an indoor pool too, as well as a hot tub on the 3rd floor with un -obstructed views of the bay and meadows, so relaxing and also super clean and well maintained, Breakfast in the little restaurant was included with the room, just enough with many items to choose from, Bagels, assorted breads, e-muffinns, cereals, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and a waffle maker to make your own and plenty of hot coffee, yummy! Everyone is so friendly and nice here, will return again in the fall, had such a nice time, by far the best place to stay on Chincoteague.

Room Tip: All the rooms are on the water!

I was on a Road Scholar trip this past week and the staff at the hotel were so accommodating. We decided to come in a day early and the room that we would have the whole week was ready and waiting. We were greeted by Toby, the official greeter! He is a beautiful gray cat that "talks" to you upon entering the lobby. The staff was wonderful and were quick to fill any request. The room was very clean and large. The sunsets from the boardwalk were fantastic. Paty the woman who is at the cafe keeps everything filled and good. No better place that we saw anywhere on the island. Hope to return one day.

Room Tip: All rooms face the bay, so there are no bad rooms!

This stylish hotel resembling a private estate is located on the residential side of the drawbridge and removed from the endless downtown construction. With all the lush vegetation and a boardwalk with gazebo, it feels like being in Florida. There is an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a fitness center, a sun deck, a little garden, a cafe and a laundry in separate buildings. Yes, it is a resort, absolutely!

All the rooms in the two main buildings have balconies overlooking Chincoteague Bay. The older building has motel-style exterior corridors, while the modern new building which I prefer has interior corridors, an elevator and lobby doors that are locked at 11 PM. This year, for the first time, I stayed in a corner room with 6 windows all around. The views, especially at sunset, were spectacular. But watching the tour boats go by and the drawbridge go up and down was even better.

The room was spacious with a king bed, elderly sofa, flatscreen TV and spotless beach-colored carpeting. It had a very small bathroom, but there were two sinks, a refrigerator in the closet and a coffee maker. The only things missing were a microwave oven and a comfortable swivel chair with armrests for the writing desk. Also, the room would look so much nicer with vertical blinds and a white lightweight bedspread or duvet.

There was a time when the little cafe on the premises served a very good full breakfast. Then some unfortunate changes were made. Now the cafe is a big disappointment with a sub-continental breakfast consisting of coffee, cereal, a waffle, hard-boiled eggs and canned fruit. Thankfully, you can get a decent breakfast at Bill's or Maria's restaurant, but you need your car to get there.

Finally, the rate for this corner room on the third floor was $144 which, I believe, is reasonable and much lower than the rates at the chain hotels.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor in the NEW building

Wonderful relaxing views of the Intercoastal. We were part of a Road Scholar program. Rooms were spacious, but somewhat in need of updating. Front desk personnel were very gracious. Breakfast was in a separate building and more than adequate. Nice conference room and deck on the second floor. We would definitely go back on our own.

Room Tip: All rooms face the Intercoastal with great views.

I like to see locally-owned family businesses stay alive, of course.....but you HAVE to keep up with the times. Carpeting in the bathrooms, VERY outdated décor, and a musty odor are not how guests want to be greeted. I think this place has SUCH potential, but they really need to invest in updating the rooms. The floral bedspreads and floral couches are what gives the place a yucky "old" feeling. Put crisp white bedding in the rooms and add some nice silver mirrors or contemporary artwork. Put in clean carpeting. I think the views and the location are what sells this place...certainly NOT the actual rooms.

I love this hotel. I wish it were a little further away from the bridge but you can't beat the view of the sunset and their beautiful boardwalk. The waterway by the hotel has boats going by occasionally but they are not a bother. There's a great hammock too. The room is a little outdated but comfortable. There was a little bit of a smell but I stopped noticing it and it was gone by the last day I think.

The people who work there are super nice!!!

Room Tip: I liked being on the first floor but we were right next to teh building with the lobby and there was...

I have been to Chincoteague many, many times and our family usually takes our camper and stays at a campground as we have a boat and children that love camping. But on the spur of the moment we decided to make a one night trip to Chincoteague over Memorial Day weekend and we were fortunate that the Island Resort was able to fit it in on such a busy weekend. I had no idea of the kind of place it would be as I made the reservation on the phone. But the man was very friendly and assured me that even with us coming in after 10PM, that he would be waiting for us. What we found was a flat out terrific resort that is very well maintained, inside and out. It has a great little walk through scenic garden with lights and fountains which we enjoyed walking through, even 11PM. There is a short boardwalk with benches, a dock, and gazebo right along the water so there is no shortage of places to sit and just watch the boats or do some fishing. The rooms were clean and well-kept with extra pillows in the closet. All the normal amenities were there and the complimentary continental was really good the next morning. It is clear that the family that owns and runs this hotel certainly takes a lot of pride in their resort and their service! My wife and I both remarked that it we decide to do a hotel stay again in Chincoteague, the Island Resort will definitely be seeing us. Thanks for a great one-night on the island!
