This hotel is definitely more then expected. The staff were very friendly. The room were clean and no one bothered you really in the morning. The breakfast was very good and a lot better than most. The view of pool was beautiful. Water isn't too visible but there is a beach about a mile away. I'll definitely stay here again.

We have been coming to Chincoteague/Assateague for 15 years and always stayed at the Blue Heron. The staff were lovely, welcoming, and helpful. We always felt like family when we arrived. It is a Days Inn business now. We arrived at the hotel 45 minutes before the 3:00 check in. Our room wasn't ready. No problem. We asked if my 6 year old son could use the restroom. The front desk person, Rachel, said there are no restrooms there and we had to go to McDonalds 750 meters down the street. I expect a musty smell at cheap beach hotels, but the smell in this room took your breath away. Looks good in photos. They should have a scratch and sniff. Asked room service for extra shampoo and soap because we are a family of four. They gave it to us, but the following day, they left one shampoo and one conditioner. Spending all their money on pillows, not on hospitality. Never to return.

Room Tip: All hotels in Chincoteague are 2-star hotels - even the $250/nite ones. It's the friendliness and the small town flavor that we go for.

I have mixed feelings about my three-night stay. I was going to complain about the small, old-fashioned TV with remote that did not work, when out of the blue a new large, flat screen TV appeared in the middle of my stay. Very nice. I don't know whether all the rooms are receiving these new TVs, but it wouldn't hurt to ask when booking or checking in.

A few other upgrades would help: a telephone that works (no phone in my room when I arrived; the owner got a brand new one and then discovered that the line was dead, of which he had been unaware); a box of facial tissues, which is standard just about everywhere; replacing the thinnest and narrowest toilet paper one can imagine; better grade toiletries; replacement of the infernal "theft-proof" hangars. This is not a cheap hotel, so such improvements are not a stretch.

On the positive side, the room and corridor seemed recently painted; the bed was reasonably comfortable; the pool looked clean (I didn't use it); and the continental breakfast was adequate, although exactly the same each day. Every one of the desk clerks I spoke with was pleasant and helpful in recommending restaurants.

This property is among the closest to the National Wildlife Refuge and the National Seashore and on the main drag from the bridge into town.

Room Tip: For a single person or couple sharing one queen bed, 112 is a good choice. At the end of the corridor, it has no noisy traffic passing by outside the door, and it is not cramped like the rooms with two double beds.
