I listened to the majority of great reviews and tried Snug Harbor for the first time Oct 12-15th 2012. It was perfect for what we wanted- nice location (east side), beautiful waterfront view, the cottage/cabin was very clean and the owners were genuinely very friendly and helpful! We ran out of time so we didn't go boating, but Snug Harbor's boat rental prices are reasonable and comparable to other boat rentals at Chincoteague (no need to shop around- you won't find better prices). Crabbing right outside our room on the dock was fun (no need for a license since we were Snug Harbor guests). Drinking my morning coffee outside on the adirondack chairs was great...The cottage/cabin (#10) was somewhat small but had everything we needed, (no microwave though-I don't know if the other ones had any). The cottage also had a nice flatscreen TV in one of the bedrooms, plus a small-ish older TV on top of the frige (not ideal, but no other place to plug it in to be able to watch it in the living room area). We took t.p. and towels just in case we needed extra ones (I read in one of the reviews that someone wasn't able to get extra t.p. or towels when they needed them, so we took them along just in case). I have a feeling that wouldn't have been a problem though). We're hoping to make Snug Harbor a yearly tradition!

We recently stayed at Snug Harbor in a 2 bedroom waterfront cottage. Accommodations were simple but very accommodating. Kitchen had basic implements- coffee pot, toaster, limited dishes, glasses, and pots and pans. Wonderful location - on the water, nice (but small) beach complete with Tiki bar and lounge chairs to relax on. Great sunsets. Fun crabbing off the pier. Kayaks were available as well as boat tours, but we did not do so I have no further comment. We rode our bikes everywhere. John and Skippy were great! Friendly and full of information...
Would stay here again!

We had a lovely stay in September in a two bedroom cottage. View over the channel is so calming and the small beachy area with tiki bars was the perfect spot for star gazing and day time relaxing. The nearby park has tennis courts and we were able to get in games with the local tennis club members. Staff at Snug Harbor were friendly and accommodating and both staff and fellow guests had great tips for local restaurant options. Being so close to Assateague was just wonderful; we made a daily exploration trip using different modes including renting cruiser bicycles one day at the spot on the right shortly before the bridge over the channel. Having a kitchen is always a plus for our family - we enjoy having the option of doing for ourselves or heading out to eat. Highly recommend this place. We'll definitely return.

Room Tip: choose a cottage that faces the channel for the best views from your front step.

A very relaxing weekend with the wife. She requested accommodations with a single bedroom (we had cottage 8). The view was great looking out over the water. We were 30 yards across the parking lot from the pier where we caught crabs and left on our kayak trip. The place was VERY small, but nice and clean. The kitchen was suitable for my wife to cook some great meals for us from the crabs we caught (about 40 keepers for two days worth). On our kayak trip we were fortunate to see ponies. Apparently, according to our guide, after the pony race in late July they are a bit spooked and seeing them is sometimes difficult. The man working there was very helpful and friendly. They kept Bob Marley's Legend's CD on repeat the whole weekend, which was more comical than annoying. There are only two things I would say are not good, which lends to the "average" rating. First, the view is nice, not caribbean AWESOME by any means and it is what is; you get what you pay for. Second, the mosquitos were FEROCIOUS!!! This made it difficult in the evening to really lounge around out by the pier and enjoy the best thing about this place, the cozy dock with its view and fishing opportunities. Also, do NOT go to Chincoteague expecting there to be a lot of things to do. Within two full days my wife and I had basically exhausted the town's options.

While they weren't friendly, we brought our own kayaks, so had no need to rent boats or kayaks there ...
We asked for recommendations for nearby takeout seafood and didn't get much help until we talked to Skippy. He was a wealth of information and we enjoyed his chats while hanging out at the tiki huts in the afternoons.
Bring your own dish soap, Kleenex, towels and toilet paper as they don't supply any of that readily. But it's quiet and relaxing and we'd go back.

We ended a long vacation with a night here - it was a beautiful location and a very calm wrap up to a busy week. Our cottage was full-service (thank goodness for the fridge!) and was exactly what we expected. We liked being able to rent a boat right on site too - we just wish the weather had been more cooperative!

My favorite experience from staying at Snug Harbor is the easy access to so many water-based activities. They have kayaks; canoes; and small local skiffs; available to rent and explore the surrounding islands and beaches. If you have your own water transportation (boat/kayak) then bring it! On land, bicycles, scooters and walking are great ways to get around. The cottages do have a bit of history to them, most are stand-alone, they are fully furnished so you can do your own cooking. Some of the cottages can accommodate your pets, which can be very helpful. The place has seabirds, ponies, and across the Channel is a the Civil War era Lighthouse. Snug Harbor is very unique and for people that like the outdoors or being in a peaceful place.

Room Tip: All of the cottages are almost on the water, i believe one is a couple feet away from the water. Pe...
