Dons is the place in Chincoteague if you are looking for reasonably priced and pleasant dining. If you eat on one side of the restaurant you have a great view of the bay and a fine perch for sunset dining, on the other side you can watch the village of Chincoteague on parade. I am a homeowner in Chincoteague and often have eaten at Don's. It is basically good diner food. The portions are large. The Flounder is fresh, as is the other sea food, the watermen dock at the edge of Dons Property and the owner has an aqua-lculture business. That means fresh seafood and the middleman is cut out. The drinks are strong. The staff is competent and pleasant. The soups are good. If you are looking for fresh vegetables or a candle lit nouvelle cuisine - go elsewhere. It is clean and tasty. Dont miss out on the mac and cheese on a side - and the dinner rolls are delicous. They have pie and smith island cake for dessert, if you have room after the entree and sides. The salad bar is nothing great, but it always features two of Don's soups. This is well worth a stop and well worth the wait (as there is often a line).

I love Don's! There's nothing special about the decor, but it has remained relatively the same since the 1980s and that's a wonderful thing right there. The food is the basic Chicoteague seafood menu one is looking for. The crabcakes are terrific and so is the homemade cole slaw. The creamy crab soup tastes the same (wonderful--filled with crab and nicely cubed potatoes) as it did in the 1980s when my toddler used to prefer it for lunch. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a dressy night out, go to Bill's or elsewhere. Don's is a great place to take new visitors to the island to eat the traditional crab, shrimp, and oyster fare we all know and love and it's right in town. Definately try Don's during your stay on Chincoteague.

You guys have never disappointed us. Your food & service has always been great!
Last time we were in I had a Burger Steak that was very tasty. (I know, this is a Seafood place, but sometimes you want something else)
Last night I had the Eggplant Parm, another great choice!
We will be back the next time we are in Chincoteague and we highly reccomend Don's to everyone!

We've been going to Chincoteague for years and have been to Don's on several occasions. Each time, there is some problem, but we keep going back because we can usually overlook whatever it is. Not this year! There were four of us. Three had fish dinners and one a steak. Ok, Ok, so you aren't supposed to have steak at a seafood restaurant. I get that, but if you have it on your menu, do it right or take if off. I'm pretty sure it was one of the horses from Assateague. And that's all I'll say to that. The fish was another story. Fried, Dried and Awful. It wasn't crowded and the waitstaff just kind of hung around looking into the dinning room. The cashier stood at the register the whole time we were there, until, of course, we went to pay, then she was no where in site. Whoever is going here and thinking this food is good, has never had a good meal. We've overlooked poor service and occasional messed up meals, but all four????? We will go back to Chincoteague, but never to Don's!

Don's Seafood Restaurant is a great spot for eating out while in Chincoteague. We enjoyed the service, the atmosphere and especially the food. Their steamer platters are amazing! Tons of seafood cooked to perfection with excellent sides and a yummy salad bar. We liked it so much we went back a second time during our one week stay on the island. The staff was friendly and we had a great time all around. I highly recommend checking them out the next time you are in the area.
