Saved this restaurant for our nice dinner of the trip and we're glad we did. The service was quick and the food was excellent. She-crab and clam chowder soups were amazing!

Some locals mentioned that a reservation was recommended.

Located on Main Street, Bill's Seafood Restaurant is one of the few places on Chincoteague that offers sit-down, white table cloth dining. Because of the lack of other restaurants, it's chronically crowded, and reservations are recommended (especially for the weekend, although you might be able to get a table right away on a weeknight without reservations, especially if you're a party of just two).

Food: As the name suggests, it specializes in seafood dishes but also has a fair selection of non-seafood entrees. The food was average, or perhaps a little above average compared to other seafood restaurants on the Eastern Shore. The portions were quite generous.

Atmosphere: The restaurant is medium-sided but has a lot of tables and was fairly loud. There were a few tables with children, but most seemed to be adults (or families with older children). Due to the noise and general activity, I wouldn't consider it particularly romantic.

Service: The waitstaff was friendly and competent though clearly very busy taking care of the full restaurant. It took awhile for the food to arrive, but I suspect it was due to the kitchen being busy, not any fault of our waitress.

Bill's is a Chincoteague institution and is probably the place that all the B&Bs recommend to their guests. It's a decent choice on an island with only a few options, but Etta's Chanel Side Restaurant offers much nicer views from both its dining room and screened porch (prices there are about the same). If you're looking for restaurants for dinners, I'd try one at each.

Our last night and we ate dinner here. Service was wonderful, prompt told us all about the specials and answered our questions about the food, made sure we got our food while it was still hot. I had the seafood medley and my husband had the fried seafood dinner. Food was very good and cooked just right. Glad we ate here.

This was our very first stop once arriving on the island... even before our hotel. We did not have a reservation-highly recommend though- but being a party of two it help to get seated as soon as we arrived. Although we waited 15min. for anyone to come over to our table. The waitress apologized because no one told her we were her table... I found that odd because most restaurants are already assigned tables/sections in a restaurant. Anyways, she was very nice and made up for the 15min. wait. We ordered steamed muscles for an appetizer... very good. Then I had the shrimp scampi and my boyfriend had fried calms. Both were very good. I would recommend eating here.

Madame and I had long promised ourselves a trip to Chincoteague, the setting of one of her absolute favorite books long ago -- Misty of Chincoteague -- and, of course, site of the annual pony-penning. The whole area is fascinating, actually, because of its setting around tidal flats and wooded islands.

We found Bill's on the main street in the village, and as pony-penning was still a few weeks off and it was lunchtime, had no trouble getting a table. Even on a quiet weekday, though, the place was popular enough that reservations would be a good idea, as other reviewers rightly note. The interior is comfy and quiet, and service was friendly. We started with a superb she-crab soup -- something of a house specialty -- and I really enjoyed my soft-shell crab sandwich. Prices were moderate as well -- Bill's is a winner.

Parking is available in free city lots more or less directly across the street -- again, that might change when the big crowds arrive. Interesting shops including the charming Sundial Bookstore are just a few steps away as well. Our visit was like a brief trip back in time to a unique and welcoming place..
