This is our second visit to Sundog. We arrived on a busy Saturday without reservations. The staff was very helpful and were able to accommodate us. Clean bathrooms, well stocked supplies for you bike ride. There's even a restaurant next door if you didn't pack snacks. It's a 20-ish minute ride to the top of the trail. Virginia Creeper trail is a great ride, even for those who haven't been on a bike in years.

Clean bathroom. Staff was friendly and attentive. Reasonable rates. Decent bikes & helmets. They also kindly let me leave my mini dachshund in a crate in a back room when it was too hot to leave her outside. I chose this place mainly because they are a year round retail store with camping and biking supplies, which just means they have more invested in their business as there are seven bike rental companies in town. There were scattered thunderstorms in the area and we did go through a downpour most of the way up the mountain, but it cleared and besides one shower toward the end, it was a great day. We went on a Wednesday afternoon the week before the week of the 4th so we almost had the trail to ourselves. We had rain ponchos which were also good for warmth as well as keeping us dry. I wish I had taken a light sweater as it is a much higher elevation where the trail starts. It is down hill all the way until a flat section the last couple of miles. The stream along the trail is stocked with large trout. Would have been nice to fish. Bring bread crumbs to throw into the pools beneath the falls and watch the fish appear! FYI to fisherman: artificial lures only allowed, but real fisherman probably know that. Sundog was a good choice for the bike rental. Nice that they are right on the trail and when you get back to town, you are there and don't have to wind through town. We got there about 12:30 and shuttle left at 1:00. We had a leisurely ride down and made it back by 5:30, and they close at 6:00, so for weather reasons and to have breaks along the route, leave early. We ate lunch before we got on the shuttle. Others stopped along the way at the trailside sandwich shop.

Two years ago we went with a group of 40+. this time we went with just our Grand daughter and daughter in law. They fitted everyone to their bike, answered all questions and were very nice and friendly. The shuttle driver was very nice and a very safe and careful driver.

Helpful with requests, these people obviously have this down pat. Make a reservation, select your bikes, and in our case a buggy to pull behind for our dog and show up 10 min befor you leave to ride up The mountain. Their van takes you and your gear to the top so you can have fun time coming back down . It's so easy, good for a wide age range and abilities.
