Was touring some of the wineries in VA one weekend and decided to stop by Barrel Oak Winery. Beautiful surroundings, the leaves were starting to change, music and great wine. This winery was perfect for the whole family.
Loved it and will go back in the future.

For a VA vineyard, they actually pour a few decent red wines. In reality though, you really go there for the picnic tables, music, ambiance and dogs. Bring your friends, family and dogs, and don't forget some snacks (but if you do, they can prepare plenty of them for you!) Then buy yourself a couple bottles of Petit Verdot and sit out by a bonfire for the afternoon.

My girlfriend and I were visiting friends in Herndon. We visited this winery on a cold and rainy day. Due to the weather, there were not enough places to sit inside or under their roofed patios. It got a little frustrating watching big tables be piled high with people's snacks and jackets, with them nowhere in sight. It wasn't good etiquette on their part, but it wasn't the winery's fault. We ended up piecing together an end table and four stools and enjoyed many bottles of their "Bowhaus Red" which was very good. The neatest part about this winery is they allow you to bring your own snacks, and even your dog. All in all a great experience once we were able to sit and enjoy.

Traveled out to Middleburg, Virginia on a Sunday afternoon in October. Nice trip, leaves turning, horsey country. Even the little girls in town dressed in riding pants with mom/dad in their landrovers. Walked into a wine store and they gave us a free tasting coupon for two worth $14 if we drove out to Delaplane, Va. to visit the Barrel Oak Winery.

We brought lunch from Whole Foods and thought this might be fun. It was. There are extensive grounds with picnic tables, umbrellas and fire pits. They supply the wood and even start the fire for you. …. free of charge! Wow, nice touch. We purchased a bottle of merlot and they even provided the glasses. What a great way to spend an autumn weekend in northern Virginia. We had a wonderful time but you need to like or at least tolerate dogs.. seemed like everyone had one, or two. Highly recommended and it took less than an hour from DC.

I live in the area and we usually go to Barrell Oak in the When most of the other wineries are closing at 6pm Barrell Oak remains open until 9pm. The sangrias were a nice addition this year and were very good. The wines are tasty and enjoyable. If the setting wasnt so close to I66 it would be perfect. I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and I often feel like Im sitting on my own deck.
