“Great place to Stay!!”
Reviewed 8 August 2012

This was the second time I have stayed. Nice hotel, very close to Kings Dominion within walking distance to entrance of park. Definately recommend the two day package to the park/two nights in hotel. You can't go away for that price to the NJ shore..haha Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Ricky in Maintenance. He had to assist us twice, the phone and hair dryer weren't working, he quickly replaced the hair dryer with a new one. Enjoyed that there was a business center with a computer for guests to use (no charge).

Room Tip: We were in the rooms closest to the tennis courts, no problems.

Decent place. Very close to Kings Dominion, especially if it rains!! Don't bother waiting for the shuttle because the walk is really not bad at all. It's an ok hotel. Not great but not horrible. Seemed clean, except for some late night parties at the pool who left all their stuff around. There's really nothing close by as far as food so you are kinda stuck with Denny's and its well, Denny's. Ask for the 2-4-6 value menu because they don't give it to you automatically.

We selected this hotel because it was walking distance to King's Dominion. We arrived at 10am on the day of our stay, so that we could head straight to the park, and avoid the parking fee for King's Dominion. We were pleasantly surprised that our rooms were ready, and our on-line request for side by side rooms was honored. The rooms are on the small side, and the bathrooms are teeny tiny. But our room appeared clean enough and the beds were reasonably comfortable. We hit the pool that evening on a break from the park. The pool was decent, always busy with kids and families. I was glad that our room was overlooking the courtyard and not the pool, because even at 11pm the pool was very busy and noisy. We ordered 2 pina coladas at the Tiki Bar at the pool, which cost 19 dollars and came in a solo cup, which I thought was a rip-off, but they tasted good enough for us to order another round :). The pizza delivery at the hotel was really quick (10 minutes or less for delivery to your hotel room door), and it was much, much cheaper than eating in the Park. The pizza tasted really good. We were a bit disappointed that there was no continental breakfast in the lobby, not even a pop-tart, fruit or coffee or anything. We did not eat the Denny's that is on-site, due to the really bad reviews that we had seen on here. If you are visiting King's Dominion, THIS is the place to stay so that you can walk to the park, avoid parking fees, and take a nice break in the middle of the day. If you are just staying in the area and need a hotel, I personally would not choose this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not near the pool during swimming season because the pool stays open very late and is...

This Best Western came recommended by family members who have stayed here several times booking with the hotel, and selecting their hotel and Kings Dominion package. We decided to try our luck with Priceline since we wouldn't be going to the park everyday, but using this as a starting point for days trips in the area. We won the hotel on PL with a $51 dollar bid after our initial bid of $45 was rejected. Upon check-in, which was late due to a thunderstorm, we were given a courtyard/poolside, double room, ground floor. The room was clean, and well-kept, which surprised me, but a musty smell, which is often the main complain from reviewers could be found in this room also. The main culprit (from experience) is air conditioning units which need to be serviced and cleaned. This can be fixed with several plug-ins and some air fresher. The security key card unit on the door to the room also stuck/was hard to open, which also seemed to be a problem with most of the doors at the property from observation. Besides whats mentioned above, the room was spacious for two people, clean, and comfortable, which also goes for the bathroom. We went to breakfast at Denny's, and it seemed a little high for Denny's, and this was the case for the drinks at the Tiki Bar by the pool, and the onsite Pizzeria Uno. Overall, the hotel is a great jumping off point for Kings Dominion, Williamsburg, and Historic Richmond or the area Civil War Battlegrounds. Restaurants and shopping can be found at Exit 92 and below, which is a ten minute drive from the hotel. We drove to Richmond in 25 minutes to see Historical sites, and to Historic Williamsburg in less than an hour. What would be the major downside to most people is that the only thing in the immediate area is Kings Dominion, but there's plenty of things to do within an hours drive.

Room Tip: Great location for Kings Dominion, Williamsburg, and Historic Richmond, Civil War Battlegrounds or D...

We did the package deal for 2 days at the park and overnight in the hotel, which was a good deal since we are 3.5 hours away. It also saves on parking since you can park for free in the hotel parking lot (often in the shade) and walk over to the park entrance. There is a free shuttle but I don't think it comes very often. The room was ok. It appeared that behind the bathroom door had not been vacuumed - there were several hairs, dust, and a used toothpick. I didn't bother to call the front desk, so I just picked it all up with some TP and threw it away. The rest of the room seemed clean. It was only one night, so whatever. The beds and pillows were fairly comfortable, but the blanket was really thin. I take my own, anyway. The TV is an older model, not a flatscreen, but I actually liked that because most hotels have the aspect ratio permanently set to "stretch" on those screens which bugs the crap out of me.

I visited the end of June and our room did not face the courtyard with the pool. It was very quiet, even more quiet than many nice hotels. Perhaps because the halls are outdoors. Also, I was surprised that the A/C was very quiet and worked well!

We had Denny's for Breakfast. It was Denny's. Good Service, clean, but, you know, Denny's.

The front desk will give you a list of restaurants 6 miles up the highway, and other list 12 miles up the highway. There is a Burger King across the street.

I'd stay here again for the convenience if I came to King's Dominion, but if I had to be in the area for anything else, I'd stay elsewhere.

If you have kids, the pool, minigolf, shuffleboard, and tennis courts that the motel has might be fun. I didn't use any of them.

Room Tip: Our room didn't face the pool, main parking lot, or the highway and was very quiet.
