I decided to take a mini vacation and bike the New River Trail. I wanted to say in Pulaski, but no good options there. Dublin was only about 15 minutes away. This Quality Inn is standard for the Choice mid-range properties. Very nice on the outside, with clean brick, although some of the trim was rotting. The lobby was nice too, a little quirky setup, but quirky is good. The side door did not close properly. I got there at 6PM on a Monday. The clerk said it was very busy, and she would have to check if the room was ready. Really? Check in is at 4. The maid staff should have been long finished. I asked for a second floor room, but be aware, there is no elevator. The room was ready, OK, but nothing fancy. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, free wifi. It overlooked the pool area, which is completely surrounded by the hotel in a courtyard. Parking is plentiful since the restaurant next door is closed. Convenient to I-81, but there was a bunch of construction on the the interstate, so my GPS re routed me down some quaint country roads. Not much for dining in the immediate area. I ended up going to Pulaski for supper. The hotel breakfast was typical, although a bit late, with cheese omlettes and sausage patties. The computer was down the next morning, so they emailed my bill to me, and someone else's bill too (they only charged him $60 for his room). Again, the clerk mentioned how busy they were, but looking at the number of cars in the parking lot at 6:30 AM, I would say they were less than 1/2 full.

I rate hotels based on their cost to quality ratio. I paid $67 for a similar Quality Inn in NC last month. If this place had charged $60 like the other guy whose bill I got instead of $77, I would have given it 4 stars.

Nice clean property, good parking, clean rooms. Downstairs hallway smelled of cigarette smoke and I'm a smoker. I'm handicapped and got a downstairs room near an exit door so I could go outside to have a smoke. Wi fi was terrible, kept disconnecting, front desk said they've had that problem for quite a while. Very frustrating when you're doing work on your laptop. Had to start over several times. Excellent hot breakfast, egg omelets, sausage patties, waffles. Coffee was good and hot. OJ was good too. I've stayed here for over 20 years on my annual business trip. Did not like the automatic charge for the inroom safe. They took the charge off, but said it's automatically charged. Wonder how many guests don't pay attention to their bill when they check out. It's only a couple of bucks, but I don't like being charged for something I don't use.

Room tip: Rooms facing pool have sliding doors to let in fresh air if needed.

Room with mismatched furniture. Mattress needed a updating, The decor was stuck in 1990s style. We were never sure the door locked. Price gauged for graduation weekend. Think there are better choices in the same location.

I was traveling south on Interstate 81 in Virginia headed for Georgia. We had been traveling all day and were getting tired. Above Roanoke we began to look for a hotel. I found out that there was a Nascar race 100 miles south and all of the hotels were booked as far up as where we were. We continued down I81 to I77 and down to Hillsville, Virginia where we found this Quality Inn. I had checked other hotels and found: too expensive or just sold their last room. This Quality Inn was pleasant, clean, under $100, had a great staff, and came with a great hot breakfast. I was surprised to find they had many rooms available. They worked with us on everything and I will definitely be returning.

Room tip: Get a room on the second floor on the west side for a peaceful morning.

This place reminded me of a nursing home turning into a hotel. The room was horrible smelled of smoke, the door would not lock there was very little light in the room they had several lamps but only 2 outlets. Room was dirty pillows were small bed was very uncomfortable. Felt as if the place should be condemned. Also called a week in advance and canceled a night. Showed up and they had canceled the whole reservation and charged for that night i canceled. Breakfast was awful. Would not suggest this place to anyone. I would not give this hotel any stars or circles but it makes you have to give something.
