After a drive of 11 hours through torrential rain from New York my son and I finally arrived at the Days Inn in Farmville, VA. (We drove there for an Open House at Longwood University the next day, which is right up the road.) We were exhausted. The man who checked us in was not particularly friendly however he was efficient. The lobby was extremely small but fine. We asked for a second floor room and were given room 212. (The upstairs rooms have an indoor walkway. The 1st floor rooms you can drive right up to the door of the room.) As we entered the room I immediately saw into the bathroom and thought it was dirty. It turned out what I thought was dirt was the marble of the sink however after further inspection there was crud around various parts of the bathroom. On the plus side the beds turned out to be very comfortable however I couldn't help wondering what might be lurking underneath the mattress!! The general feel of the room was pretty cheap. The furniture was very old and worn away and you could tell this was a motel that the owners did not really care too much about. As far as television there were not many channels to choose from. It didn't even seem that the pen in the room was fresh and new. It was not on the desk with a pad where I have normally found one, but in the drawer with the phone book. On the plus side, the heater worked very well and I liked that it was not an energy saver (however bad that may sound) because I need a constant hum when I try to fall asleep. The bathroom also had one of those heat lights which I also appreciate. In the morning there was supposed to be free continental breakfast. I expected cereal of some sort.. Very scant pickings. A couple of bagels and coffee and juice and no place designated to sit and eat it if you chose to have something. I commented to my son that if he ended up attending Longwood I would definately check out one of the other places to stay nearby.
