Description: Located in an elegantly restored Victorian mansion, Joshua Wilton House is within walking distance of historic downtown Harrisonburg and the campus of James Madison University, offering guests quiet charm and gracious living in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The Restaurant offers a unique and exquisite a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, along with an extensive selection of beers and an award-winning wine list. Featured are the food products of many small local farms and producers who supply our kitchen with high quality ingredients that simply cannot be found elsewhere. Chef's Tom French and Brian Bogan work together to create food that highlights Virginia's southern heritage while adding a French influence to the dish. During the warmer months, seating is available on the outdoor brick patio. Arrive early and enjoy a cocktail in our lounge before dinner.

“Wonderful Meal”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

We ate at the Joshua Wilton House during a recent stay.

The dining was very, very good, and better than many meals that we have paid far more for. Appetizer, salad, entrée and desert were all first rate. The only small issue that I had was that the Filet I ordered needed a steak knife, as the standard knife "squish" cut the steak. The steak knife was provided and all was well. Service was great and provided by a strong team.

If I lived in Harrisonburg, we would be regular's here. Nicely done.

“Finally an elegant restaurant in Harrisonburg”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

I have been visiting my daughter in college at JMU for the past four years an have been very disappointed that there were no upscale places to eat. It's a shame I just found the Joshua Wilton House now after all this time, but then again we still have a year to continue enjoying it. The Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful home with a lot of history. The waiter was kind enough to tell us all about the original owner Joshua Wilton and the time when the house had become a frat house. It is now an elegant dining establishment with a very broad wine list. There are also specialty cocktails for anyone who does not like wine. The menu had a range of choices from meats, fish and poultry. The portions were a nice size and the desserts to die for. Yes this is a must go. I was with a party of 5, we each had an appetizer, main course, two bottles of wine and two desserts, the bill was about $300.. I would say that was a fare price for this elegant restaurant.

“Still Wonderful after 10 Years”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We recently returned to the Harrisonburg area after 10 years. We were returning from Charlotte, NC and this was halfway home so we stopped for several days. We had dined at the Joshua Wilton House in 2003 and decided to try it again. We were not disappointed. The bar area is delightful, quiet, intimate and furnished like an old fashioned bar with leather club chairs and low tables.

Our dinner was wonderful, service and food were outstanding. I wish it were closer to home!

“Still great 10 years later”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

We were delighted with our experience at Joshua Wilton House and it was even better than when we last dined there in 2003. We were seated next to a nice stained glass window but the mixed media collages on the other walls were jarring in the Victorian setting and were out of place. Other than that it was as remembered inside and out. Our server, Rashaad, was profession and friendly. The special appetizer of gravlox on brioche with herb flavored cream cheese and baby arugula was wonderful. I ordered the scallops over cheese grits and veggies and my husband ordered the duck breast. They were both very good but his green beans were tough. We got the brownie with wonderful chocolate syrup and caramel ice cream for dessert.

“Lovely setting”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

Excellent service, fine dining, and wonderful setting. One of the top three in Harrisonburg - also serves as an inn, but one does not have to stray there to eat there.
