The room was nicely decorated and spacious with a very comfortable bed. Within 5 minute drive to James Madison University. Friendly owners who keep the inn very clean and the breakfast is always fabulous. Our favorite place to stay when visiting our student at JMU.

stayed two nights in the 1790 suite. beautiful old home, reconstructed very well (no evidence of must, mold or dust that you might see in an almost 2 century old home) especially with my wife who has sensitive allergies and asthma, she had no problems with the accommodations. Delicious breakfast, wonderful service from the innkeepers, and immense attention to the little details (picnic lunch with chocolate grenache was to die for and personalized map to local wineries as part of a winery package). the suite gave lots of room, with soft, feather bed, clawfoot bathtub in personal bathroom, and a relaxing sitting room to read and relax

The title says it all ! We had a great time here we would recomend it to anybody who
likes to stay in a very nice place with extremely helpful and friendly people, as far as we are concerned it does not come much better than this.
Having stayed in quite a lot of Five Star places they need to take note of how to do it wright with a visit here !

We had a fantastic experience at this B&B. We are actually from the area and were looking for a place to have a last minute wedding. Janice was so helpful...she gave us the info we needed to find a place that could accommodate our wedding even though she could not host it for us. We decided to spend our wedding night at By The Side of the Road and are so glad we did. We stayed in the Bishop's Retreat, which is a quiet, more secluded area of the house and we LOVED it. Breakfast in the morning was such a treat. Thank you to Dennis, Janice, and Anna. Your thoughtful preparation for our visit made us feel very welcome.

We love the Bishop's Retreat on the third floor. It is not as fancy as the cottages, but it has two comfortable club chairs and a good reading light in the living room and a small refrigerator and microwave. The king bed is very comfortable and also has excellent reading lights.there are thoughtful items in bathroom like q-tips, cottonballs, as well as shampoo. Dennis and Janice are very welcoming to all their guests. We have stayed here three times and will probably return.
