“Another Great Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2014

Stayed here a few times now and our last visit didn't disappoint. Had another good meal and a few drinks with friends. Can be a little quiet but if thats what you want then fine or ring before and get dates for the weekends they have music on.The locals are friendly and make you welcome. Take a walk to the only other pub in the village for some lively chit chat. A lovely secluded village over a bridge in the Welsh hills but not too far from Abergele or some shopping in Llandudno , exploring Betws Y Coed or just a stop over when catching a ferry from Holyhead. Gareth behind the bar is a great host as are the rest of the team. A lovely late breakfast to set you up for your journey onward or home. A little gem.

Room Tip: All rooms are good , some bigger than others, free upgrades are available for the larger rooms if th...

Just spent an enjoyable night at this friendly, little hotel, with some friends who had stayed there before. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived, untill leaving the following day, such a nice change from some of the bigger hotel chains out there. Our evening meal was delicious, with excellent service , despite the fact that there was also a party of 50 guests enjoying a Xmas "bash" in the hotel. In fact, later on we joined in with all their dancing and entertainment! so a good time was had by us all !!! We opted for a king sized room, which was spacious and extremely comfortable, all in all, excellent value for money. We will certainly be back to this "little gem".

Room Tip: King sized room 's are lovely and spacious, but could get a little "noisy" as they are...

We stayed here for four nights during Eisteddfod week, when comfortable & reasonable priced accommodation can sometimes be hard to find, and were really pleased with this old inn. It's been recently refurbished and the downstairs is more restaurant than pub, seemed to be fairly full nearly every night (except Mondays when it is shut). The food is good (advisable to book even if you are staying, especially at weekends). It's a bit off the beaten track in a lovely old village but at the same time it would make a good base for exploring North Wales, close to the main roads. Our room was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is busy, sometimes to the point of the car park being full, but there is a public car park across the road as well. We hope we may be back if we need somewhere to stay in this area again.

We visited the Black Lion for a family birthday on 23rd November.

The service was friendly and efficient with a drinks order being taken immediately allowing us time to peruse the menu. The choice of food was such that we had difficulty in deciding what to order. The generously portioned food arrived piping hot accompanied by chips and a good selection of vegetables. Our party of five throughly enjoyed the experience.

We will definitely be returning!

This pub was recommended to us by a family member who had visited before. The food was very good of home cooking standard and quality, the service was warm and welcoming. As we were not familiar with the local brewed beer we were offered tastings so that we could make a choice, beer was also very good.
When we visit Abergele again next year we will most certainly pay a visit to The Black Lion

This is now our 'local' since we moved into the area and we have eaten here several time. Always take along visiting friends as we know the standard of food and service is always good. My husband almost always settles on the burger, which is sourced from a local butcher, as they are soooo good!!! I have tried most of the meals on offer and never been disappointed. It is not 5* cuisine but well cooked, wholesome food. If you want to eat here Friday or Saturday it is advisable to book as all we locals are already there!!!

I felt that it was over priced, my steak had grizzle & my chips were warm (rather than hot), & they were very greasy. My starter of wrapped king prawns were typical of what I could buy from Iceland or Tesco frozen food dept 2 packs for £5.00 I was charged £5.95 for 5 or 6 prawns
