This is a slightly above average hotel. The room was vey clean and was a nice size. The staff were very helpful and the price was average. It is a very good choice if you are in the Wytheville area and want to save some money. The room had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker.

This hotel serves a true complimentary hot breakfast. They have eggs and sausage along with a pancake maker. We didn't get a chance to use the pool, so I cannot comment on it.

We stopped here on a long drive down the east coast and chose it based on Trip Advisor ratings and because we've grown fond of the Holiday Inn Express amenities.

The lobby is a bit worn and could use some updating, but don't take that as a bad sign. There is a large seating area where the morning breakfast is set up and there is coffee and cookies out all day, though the coffee in the evening will be cool or cold, but you can warm it up in the room microwave.

The room itself, again could use a little updating, but it was very clean and huge by modern standards. It's obvious this is an older hotel just by the size of the room. Bed was comfortable, pillows were a little soft for my taste, but overall, we really don't have any complaints about the room. Larger refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave are included in the room. Lots of hot water in the shower and the staff was pleasant.

The included breakfast in the morning was very good, lots of fresh egg omeletes with sausage patties, biscuits and gravy along with plenty of continental type items, juice and coffee. So if you need a place to stay in Hillsville, VA, you can't go wrong with this Holiday Inn Express. They're everything you'd expect in HIE line, though it really could use some updating to be more in line with some of the other HIEs we've stayed in.

Use TripAdvisor to locate some good local restaurants as well, or simply go to the Shoney's in the attached parking lot.

Room Tip: Front of the hotel faces I-77 though it is some distance away.

My mother and I were traveling from Boston to the Atlanta area when we experienced car problems. The engine light came on and the car was dying on the highway. Needless to say, I was frazzled. My husband called Brad at the front desk who provided us with a room and assisted us with our luggage. Brad also provided the name and number of a local garage where our car was fixed. He was simply, marvelous to us. Sandy in the breakfast area was a breath of fresh air as well. We simply can't thank the staff enough for their hospitality during our 3 night stay. Great job!!

After 2 planes were cancelled/delayed for days, we decided to rent a car and make the drive from North Carolina to Ohio. We drove until we were tired and decided to stop for the night. It was very late and we were unsure where we even were or what we would find. What we found was a clean property with the nicest front desk person (Bonnie). She offered us a better rate because of our situation and also made sure we had toiletries, because our luggage made the connecting flight and we had nothing.

The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were clean. The hot breakfast is a nice addition to it all.

If we need to stop around this area again, we will make sure to stay here.

Thank you for making our terrible situation better.

Brad at front desk was very helpful. This is an Older Express, but still nice enough. Our room was clean and appeared to have some things updated. If you are going across the Blue Ridge, this is a good place stop, close enough for a quick on and off.
Has the normal express breakfast, self serve with lots of stuff to pick from - juices, coffee, muffins and their warm cinnamon rolls . Everyone should find something to eat. TV had HDMI input so we could watch shows off our Latop. Wi-FI was OK, but don't think it's really High Speed (just normal).
Good A/C, lots of warm water.

Super clean helpful and had a pool. Only probably is I woke up all night because there heat system had all this buzzing, faint alarm sound beeping and just plain annoying disturbed sleep. Pillows were drab, pool was nice, kids loved it. Coffee was nice and hot

Room Tip: Don't turn on the heat system.

Dear Marianne P,

Thank you for leaving us a candid review about your visit. I am glad that you found our pool facility to be clean and the coffee served met your liking. However, I regret that the noise levels experienced were a disappointment. We take all reviews negative or positive very seriously and your comments will help us improve our efforts.

We travel frequently from our home in eastern Ohio to Hilton Head Island, SC. We overnight in one of three hotels en route. The Holiday Inn Express, Hillsville, VA is one of them. Our past four stays have been a Rewards Night stay, by redeeming accumulated points.

One of the Priority Club perks I appreciate is the suite upgrade we always receive from manager, Betty Fowler. After a long day on the road, a spacious room is welcomed. My husband is an early riser and the extra space for reading and working ensures my slumber. The included breakfast offers plenty of hot and cold options especially if you like biscuits and gravy and either omelets or scrambled eggs along with bananas, apples, cold cereal, hardboiled eggs, breads, muffins, cinnamon rolls, varieties of milk, juices, teas and coffees.

Bath and Body amenities are plentiful and the lighting is good, including a timed heat lamp. There is a vertical grab bar at the end of the tub and a smaller, horizontal handhold bar on the side of the tub. There is no exhaust fan. The towels and washcloths are soft and in good condition. Beds are comfortable and the linens are in good shape. I do not care for the pillows which are too soft for my needs; I cannot distinguish between the ‘soft’ and ‘firm.’ If you depend on a pillow for firm support, bring your memory foam from home. There is ample lighting in the suite: a floor lamp; two bedside lamps; two table lamps on the side of the sleeper sofa and easy chair; and a wall lamp above the alcove work table. The hotel also has a meeting room, indoor pool and exercise room. . The most important feature for us? The clean refrigerator and microwave.

Wendy’s and Shoney’s are adjacent to the hotel. Plenty of gas stations and a McDonalds are in the immediate area an easy on and off of I-77, Exit 14, then west on US 58. The hotel is ¼ mile on the right.

We were checked in quickly and efficiently on Dec. 7; there were very few guests that night because of a pending ice storm. Prior to the 11 a.m. checkout, we had to decide whether to leave or stay another night because of ice en route home. We erred on the side of caution and decided to stay another night. Betty accommodated us once again and with a very attractive rate. She and her staff know how to retain customers and create a family feel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor are always quiet.
