We had visited The Homestead during the summer before, but now I think the winter may be the perfect time to go. We had heard that it was a good spot to introduce little ones to skiing, and it definitely was - the instruction, the size of the facility, the overall atmosphere - very conducive to learning (and loving) to ski. There was also so much else to do! Snow tubing, ice skating, outdoor swimming (heated pool), we just spent hours and hours outside. Inside, bowling, face painting, ice cream, and a toy store. Seriously, our kids have determined it to be their favorite place on Earth to go.

We enjoyed the beautiful resort and the fantastic service. The employees really go out of their way to make your stay special and effortless. The resort was beautiful, covered in snow, and people were swimming in the hot spring heated pools, ice skating, skiing, sledding, horseback riding, etc. The resort was packed over the holiday weekend and there were tons of children everywhere except the spa. So, if you want to avoid this, do not pick a holiday weekend. The one thing lacking was the food served at the ski slopes venue. Expensive for amusement park fare. They definitely need to add some healthier options and serve higher quality food there.

Great place for a getaway-all season resort we took the kids for skiing the first time. Lessons were great, resort never seemed overly crowded anywhere you went. Spa is lovely and the Jefferson Restaurant for the view and best service and food.

I love the Homestead! It's an awesome getaway fro DC without having to get on a plane! Been twice, once with other couples. Great place for those looking to just relax and unwind. Great history behind the hotel. The spa is really great! We hung out in hot mineral water while being served drinks in 8 degree weather, while it was snowing... it doesn't get much better than that in cold Feb weather. Almost all American presidents have visited the homestead or the greenbriar they are both awesome. The biggest difference between the two is that the Greenbriar has a casino on site. But my opinion homestead has a much better spa.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony

The room was adequate for our needs, skiing was great, kids really want to go back again. Only drawback was a lack of orientation to the facility. It is a large facility with lots of amenities. Do your research before you go and print off a map from the website. Make activity and dinner reservations before your stay as times fill up quickly on busy weekends.

If you want a place off the beaten path that is a gorgeous, quiet but busy and "alive" luxury "retreat" for business or R&R, just go here. I went and worked the entire time because I had important client work to complete, and didn't even use the mineral pools and still had a great time!!!

This was my second visit to the homestead. First visit was without the family but I knew they would love it. There is so much to do. Our kids went swimming outside in 20 degree weather in a pool that was 95 degrees. It was truly amazing. We went skiing but didn't have enough time to go ice skating. The staff was excellent and very friendly. This is a hotel that really thinks about the family experience. Wonderful place!
