If you have money and children in the 5-15 age range, this is probably a good place as that is the target audience. But if you are a couple looking to get away, or can't afford to be nickled and dimed to death by your children's desires, this is not the place to go unless you buy one of the package deals. It is noisy, not as in the voices of young children, but the doors can not be shut quietly, they close hard and thus make a lot of noise. The carpets are worn and do nothing to quiet the sound of running feet, and no child can resist the urge to run down a long hallway. If the Omni franchise is serious about making this a high class resort, they need to put some money into it rather than looking for every opportunity to charge you. On the plus side, the staff is welcoming, courteous, and very friendly.

Room Tip: Definitely want a top floor room to reduce the noise of feet.

It's a beautiful resort for a family on a mini vacation. It can get a bit pricey but with good planning you will enjoy your stay here. We had a good experience with their customer service and the complimentary afternoon tea was a nice touch and greatly appreciated. Do your research before you arrive so you will know what activities are and aren't free. Join the Omni Loyalty Program and you'll receive some added benefits. Dining is also expensive so plan well and don't forget to make your reservations ahead of time. Old hotels if maintained well have a certain je ne sais quoi that we just love. It's probably the elegance that it exudes, from its beautiful architecture, its history and the tradition it still upholds. Have fun and enjoy your stay!

First time visit for the 2 of us. The views are nice, rooms are clean, overall the staff is courteous and pleasant. lots of activities, but many require an add'l fee (Typical resort -- you're a captive audience). Jefferson Grill was marvelous for dinner -- awesome bourbon corn, mushrooms bourguignon; eveything was yummy. Breakfast buffet is delicious but pricey at $27/person. For a hearty breakfast (less the ambience) try Lindsay's Roost right in town -- sausage gravy biscuits were PERFECT. Nice place but since most things require an extra fee (separate from the resort fee), we left feeling "nickled and dimed".

Thank you for your feedback about your stay with us. As you mentioned, there are some additional fees at the resort for various activities. When planning a future visit, we recommend asking our Experience Planner about Activity Packages and the Bed & Breakfast Plan, both of which are a good value. The Daily Resort Charges covers high-speed wireless internet access, in-room coffee, daily newspaper upon request, afternoon tea in our Great Hall, nightly movies, property shuttles to all resort recreational activities, access to the Fitness Center, tennis courts (seasonal), swimming pools (indoor and the year-round family outdoor pool Allegheny Springs, which seasonally has lazy river and slides), and gratuities for Housekeeping staff. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

My wife and I wanted a f=ew days of relaxation which is why we picked the Homestead. We were not disappointed. We had a suite which was spacious with two very comfortable beds. The food in both the Main Dining Room and the Jefferson were well served and delicious. We both used the spa for mineral bath soaking and massages. The spa is very well equipped and appointed. We left the Homestead feeling well rested and happy with our stay.

The grounds at this hotel are wonderful, beautiful and better kept than the inside of this historical hotel. We had booked a mountain view room (added cost) and the first room was facing mostly parking lot very little view at all, changed to much better room with view, after asking. Omni has an opportunity to turn this hotel into something special, the first opportunity is to train your staff to give quality consistent service across all areas and clean the hotel up. A few examples: there was a half eaten piece of candy that stayed in the corner of the elevator for our entire stay, come on how many employees got on the elevator and saw this and the service at the spa pool was just plain awful, after two hours had to ask for someone to help us, the server seemed to hide out in the back somewhere, not worth the $40.00 we had to pay to use the spa pool. There were a lot of families with children, when we first arrived and were trying to relax on the balcony, there were a bunch of children running around and banging the walls of the balcony all of a sudden there was a little head poking around staring at is. I don't mind children just parents that don't watch after them the child staring at us had to lean over the balcony rail, dangerous. If you have kids August will be a good month to visit, if you are on a romantic anniversary getaway choose a month while school is in. We went on the free Historical tour, which was very nice.

Room Tip: Check out the room before unpacking. The are a few balcony rooms with great view of the property at...

My wife and I just got back from several days at The Homestead as an anniversary getaway (August 2014). We were lucky enough to get a Groupon deal which may have saved us a few dollars on the room (check the resort's online packages first because some include breakfast, spa, golf, or other perks). Our deluxe view king room was very nice and we were fine with it because our intent was not to spend too much time there given the amenities available at the resort. We did schedule our couples spa massage before we arrived but not in enough time to get the massage we really wanted (it was already book for all of the days we were there ... moral here is browse the offering and book well ahead). We did not book restaurants until we toured the resort and were fine with dinner reservations since we arrived on a Monday and departed later in the week so we did not have the weekend crowd. The resort is very nice (we have stayed at the Greenbrier multiple times as a comparison) and much like the other "classic" resorts where we have stayed. I will say that huge "old" resorts do have many repair/maintenance issues and The Homestead was no exception. None of the needed repairs had an impact on our stay. The Homestead is very family oriented and there were a lot of families there. Again, this was expected and did not impact our stay (other than the screaming kids running the lodging room halls very early in the morning ... but that is again expected). The restaurants were great and the food was great. The only exception was the breakfast in the Great Dining Room which we felt was overpriced ($27 per person buffet). If you wanted to eat everything there you could get your money's worth but going somewhat light for breakfast we ate the other morning at Martha's Market (express shop) which had multiple choices for hot breakfast sandwiches (made at the resort) as well as cereals (hot and cold) and Starbuck's coffees. Dinners were great and we ate at three different ones during the stay. The spa appointment of a 50 minute couples massage allowed us use of the entire spa facility for the day. There are separate men and women's areas with a coed outside pool for spa use only (not the mega family pool/water area for general resort customers). We did use the spa areas before and after our massage. Our disappointment at the spa was (1) not being able to book our choice of treatments because we did not do so a month ahead and (2) not being able to at least get a couples hot stones massage. We had to settle for a Swedish massage in a couples setting. The price was about $180 per person for a 50 minute massage but this did give you the run of the spa area for the day .... figuring that in I was ok with the price. Afternoon tea at the resort is an "event" and we did that several times. It is very nice and worth the experience. I also did the sporting clay gun range experience and had a great instructor (Jimmy) and would recommend this for anyone ... whether you have shot before or not (note: I am new to sporting clays and had a fantastic time). The outstanding feature at the resort is the staff. We did not meet anyone who would not go out of their way to help us ... from the valets to bellmen to check-in desk to room attendants and restaurant/spa workers. Our time there was enhanced because of the great staff. Everything said, we had a great time. Will we go back? ... probably not but only because there are so many great resorts out there that we want to experience. If we had a good deal to draw us there we might consider it but again, there are many more such resorts within hours of us that we want to find what each has to offer. Do I recommend The Homestead ... absolutely! Have a great time and give some thought to preplanning some of the more popular events at the resort.

Room Tip: There are many choices of room types depending on what you want to pay and the size needed. Our cho...
