Like most foreign hotels there were things we liked about Baia Grande but regrettably it was unsatisfactory in many ways.

Although the hotel is a little off the beaten track there are many interesting short walks along the headlands and to several beaches nearby, and despite others saying it is too far to walk to Albufeira it's not, even for a couple in their 70th year. However, the hotel does provide a very acceptable minibus service into Albufeira and a nearby beach.

The food is so so. Certainly I have had better but I have also had a lot worse at a four star hotel. However, comments about the food rarely being hot are justified, but on the plus side the salads were excellent. The dining experience is also marred by the size of the dinning room. Whatever time you went for breakfast or dinner the number of guests squeezed in made it generally a less than enjoyable experience.

Whatever time you went for breakfast or dinner the number of guests squeezed in made it generally a less than enjoyable experience.

I was aware of others commenting about the price of drinks and that it was considerably cheaper going into Albufeira for an evening, even taking into account the price of taxis. I certainly feel that reducing the price of drinks would increase the number of purchases which should have a positive impact on profits and be to the benefit of both the hotel and its guests.

I was impressed by the layout of the hotel, I liked the design and the artwork that abounded. However, I was less than impressed with the cleanliness and care of the our bedroom. It may be that insufficient staff are available to undertake cleaning, which was of a poor standard, and infrequent changing of the old and thin towels and bedlinen, and penny pinching on soap, shampoo etc i do not consider four star quality. It also seemed to me that staff never started to clean any bedrooms until at least 9.30 a.m., which often resulted in our bedroom not being serviced until well into the afternoon. One day we did observe the cleaning which commenced at 3.15 p.m. and took 5 minutes to complete. No vacuuming of the carpet was done - I don't think the carpet was ever vacuumed during our two week stay - no towels were exchanged - nothing seemed to have been done other than make the bed and refold our damp towels. In fact during the latter period of our stay our towels were not changed for at least 6 days, but surprisingly on the last day of our stay they were!

We quite enjoyed the entertainment, although some guests considered it not very good, and certainly the pool area was good. However, generally the hotel does not give the level of service etc. I would expect from a four star establishment and because of this we are unlikely to visit this hotel again.

We were a party of three adults and we had perfect accommodation in the Baia Grande Hotel. We had two rooms on the third floor and both rooms had a balcony overlooking the garden and the sea and they were clean and well kept by the Baia Grande staff. The service in the restaurant was extremely efficient and we enjoyed the food. We loved the area and were able to walk to the nearest beach, which was just fabulous. The hotel bus took us into Albufeira town and to Gale beach. The bus timings suited us very well and the bus was prompt every time, both out and back to the hotel. All in all, we all really enjoyed our stay in Sesmarias.

Room Tip: We loved the rooms on the 3rd floor overlooking the garden and the sea.

The best thing about the hotel was the sauna and the swimming pool. Sauna was hot, the pool water was big enough and water clean. The room was rather average with a bit of mould on the walls so I was not impressed. The service was ok but really depending on the member of staff you were dealing with. The beach is not very close and you are dependant on the hotel transport to get there. A couple of tips: go for all inclusive as there are not many restaurants around, bring your own music with you, otherwise you'll end up listening to the same album of Craig David, Sade and Dido all day long, every day.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your recent visit to Baia Grande and for your review.
I am sorry to know that during your stay some details were not according to your expectations.
Please let me clarify that Baia Grande does not have All Inclusive options and that the closest beach is within walking distance (about 800 meters).
The hotel music is provided by an online system with a large selection of music.

I stayed at the Baia Grande Hotel for 4 nights in April with 5 other girlfriends. We had an absolutely fantastic time! The service was absolutely amazing and the staff were so kind and welcoming making us feel right at home. The whole atmosphere was so relaxing and welcoming! Every member of staff were very friendly and happy! The facilities were fantastic, with an amazing pool, 2 bars and resturants. We had an amazing time! The hotel was a relaxing escape for us all, but if we wanted a more lively scene we could head in to the town which was 10 minutes car journey away, the hotel provided a regular free shuttle bus there which was brilliant! I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Lovely hotel in a stunning setting (best to have a sea view room) and the staff were excellent. If they could just improve the food by having a microwave (to warm up barely warm buffet food), an extra toasting machine (as there was always a queue at breakfast) and tea coffee facilities in the bedroom that would be great. Entertainment was ok but appreciate probably improves in the high season. All of the hotel was spotlessly clean and all the staff work extremely hard. There are a couple of restaurants locally (the Dom Diniz comes highly recommended) which are worth the extra expense if you are need of escaping the buffet for a night! We hired a car as appreciate there was a shuttle service but it stopped early evening so always drove everywhere. If the food improved I would definitely stay here again but all in all you won't be disappointed with your stay at the Baia Grande Hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a pool/sea view room otherwise you could be facing the front car park!

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and for your review about Baia Grande.
Please be informed that the microwave is already available in the buffet. At the moment we do not have plans for tea/coffee facilities in the bedroom. Thank you very much for you comment about the toaster. That is a very good suggestion.

Just returned from 7 night stay at Baia Grande. Booked through Secret Escapes who originally advertised pool / sea view room which we got but only after parting with another€35.Whilst we expected outdoor pool to be cold we were surprised to find indoor pool too cold to swim. All meals are self service buffets which could only be described as tepid in temperature.Quality of breakfast was passable but quality of dinner was poor and definately not 4 star standard. In 7 nights I had to ask staff for - cups, knives, glasses, bread, potatoes, eggs and sausage at different times. We knew prior to our holiday that the hotel was out in the country but were dissapointed that there was absolutely nowhere to have a stroll to in the immediate vicinity

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for you review about Baia Grande.
Regarding you room view we allocated you the type of room you had reserved with your travel agency.
Our outdoor pool is not heated. Our indoor pool is heated and it is kept around 27 to 30º Celsius all year.
Our buffets are maintained at a constant temperature. We can understand that some clients prefer to have their food hotter. If that is the case they can ask the waiters to heat the food or use the devise that is available at the restaurant for that effect.
I regret to know, and I apologise, for the situation you describe in the restaurant. I already transmitted you comment to our restaurant manager.
I hope to have the pleasure to receive you next year at Baia Grande
Kind Regards

Isolated, limited shuttle bus service into Albuferia which is not within walking distance.
Hotel facilities are OK
Drink prices EXPENSIVE should be 30% lower all day in stead of only one hour between 6to7pm.
Hotel lacks friendly atmostphere in need of a entertainments team.
Buffet Breakfast food needs to be much Hotter some days just about warm.
Evenig buffet was 22Euros Use the shuttle into Albuferia much better value in many resturants.
As I said Could do much Better..

Room Tip: do not have 303 small balcony compared to others
