Owner description: Keswick Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery situated on the historic Edgewood Estate. Owners Al and Cindy Schornberg chose this land to produce their award winning wines because of its unique terroir and beautiful scenery. Winemaker Stephen Barnard's philosophy is to focus on quality instead of quantity and produce the best wines possible. He has garnered numerous awards for Keswick's wines including the Virginia Governor's Cup for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and Best of Class for the 2008 Viognier. Other varietals produced include Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Norton, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Touriga, and Verdejo. The tasting room is relaxing and inviting and is open daily for tastings from 9-5 excluding major holidays. During the summer, the tasting room will stay open until 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Great Tasting Room”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Wines were the best in this area...top notch. Server was very kind and helpful and friendly. Don't miss this winery if in the area, East side of Charlottesville, VA. Great views of the vineyard and the mountains. I've been to over 25 wineries in Virginia, this rates in my top 5.

“Lucy's wedding”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

We were in Charlottesville for my niece's wedding and the wedding venue that had been chosen was the Keswick Vineyards, located outside of town. When we arrived for the ceremony and reception, we were stunned to see the beauty of the location and grounds. The ceremony itself was performed beyond the fountain at the edge of the vineyard and the reception was held under the Sperry tent. I can't say enough good things about this location and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

“Nice visit, but I could do without the "club" sales pitch”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

The winery has decent wines and a nice tasting room, and it does reside in a pretty idyllic setting where you can sit outside and enjoy your purchases.

Our server (who may have been the owner, not sure) spent a bit too much time trying to push us into their wine club and regaling us with stories of how awesome they are. Maybe it's a nice thing to do for a local, but we live 450 miles away .... and just really weren't interested.

It wasn't an unpleasant visit, but we've visited hundreds of wineries in several states.... there is something to be learned by these folks about making your customers comfortable ...(BTW - that's when they buy a lot of wine).

Thank you so much for your visit and for taking the time to write a review! It would not have been the owner serving you, but we do have several wine club members who enjoy Keswick so much that they started working for us in our tasting room. It was likely one of them serving you and, being members themselves, they are enthusiastic about the club and excited to share it with others. We in no way ever want anyone to feel uncomfortable or pressured in our tasting room though! We are a small family-owned winery and we want our guests to feel like part of the family. We really appreciate your feedback and will definitely share it with the staff and try to prevent it from happening again. Thank you so much for visiting and we hope to see you again if your travels bring you back this way!

“Worth the trip”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

We went out to Keswick on a recent trip after going to Burnley (SKIP IT) and Barboursville (Average). It was a nice place, with decent wines.
The lady who served the wine was very knowledgeable about the wines......although she did tend to push the wine club membership with every other sentence!!
As other folks have mentioned, you're only going to get a sip, but it is enough to gauge the quality of the wines. And besides, if you're going to hit several wineries in a day, you don't want to get plastered!!!

“Take your time and enjoy”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

We were in the area for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon and took the afternoon to visit wineries. We stopped here because our daughter and son in law tried and enjoyed a bottle of their wine recently. It was the best stop on our tour by far! The scenery was spectacular- as was the opportunity to lunch outside with crackers and cheese and a glass of their wine. The staff took their time to explain each wine, many of which we had not sampled before (whatever you do, try both the Norton Reserve wine and the chocolate- if you are a chocoholic, you will not be sorry). This was the best and most detailed wine tasting we've had in VA. It will take a bit of work to find, but it was worth the time.
