“nice place, confused staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2010

Just stayed here with some girlfriends for a spa weekend. Our husbands sent us with a spa package. Here's the good...The resort was nicely maintained and the rooms were very comfortable. Had a good dinner at the "on the potomac" restarant, but the menu was a bit limited. The valet staff was very nice and helpful. The tavern was fun with a live band. The breakfast buffet was yummy with made to order omlettes and waffles. And the not so good... Everyone was confused by the spa package - every checkout took at least 2 people to figure it out and we had to explain how it worked and provide documentation. The service in the spa was fair and not very friendly. The womens waiting room is small. The checkout process took 25 minutes.

I had the worse experience I've ever had from a resort... This is suppose to be a resort, and not a hotel. I received better customer service from the bar which is in the back of the resort, than I did at the front office. When we arrived the reservation that we made online, for the corner king room was no longer available, and we had to take a double which was to full size beds... Is this a joke, because I'm trying to have a intimate weekend!! What's up with all the hidden charges?? Why does the bar place a $50.00 hold on the your card when you open a tab? I feel as though that should have been explained by the bartender to see if I wanted to do that or not. I don't want to have extra $$$ tied up!! This resort has poor customer service!!! Would not recommend to anyone.

We have stayed at the Lansdowne a few times and loved everytime. This time we got a deluxe suite and were so impressed. All the rooms are so beautiful but this one was absolutely breath taking. The grounds around the resort are extremely well maintained and if you like golf - they have 2 18 hole courses and 1 nine hole course which are wonderful. The food is so delicious and we even ordered room service and it was great. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a little getaway where you can get pampered a little bit. As for hidden room charges....Its a resort and they do charge a resort fee. Most 4 star resorts do the same. If you want to stay in a 2 star...then save the resort fee and forget the amenities!!

Stayed here for a couple nights with a wedding party that had two evening events. First one was in their main dining room "On The Potomac" and the food was delicious. Fine atmosphere for our party, but am sure glad I wasn't picking up the tab! Second party was in their casual Pub. Loud, but nice furniture/tv, etc. Would you believe they charge $12 for a glass of house wine? Room was more along the line of Days Inn/Hampton Inn, and other 2 star places. Not much of a view, bed lamp that didn't work and shower drain that was malfunctioning. Old TV. I cup coffee maker, but nothing else. Guys at concierge desk were very helpful in loading us in and out. Service in restaurants fine. Major shock at this place, however was to be hit with two $18 "Resort Fees" when checking out. Unbelievable, especially since we never used anything but the room and expensive restaurants. What an unfair and uncivil way to wheedle bucks out of unsuspecting guests! Would have called my credit card company to cancel the charge, but this crowd would have probably informed Equifax and the other credit monsters. Next time in Leesburg I'll settle for the Holiday Inn

We thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We have reviewed all of our booking processes and did find one instance in which we did not fully articulate the details regarding our Resort Fee. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

That said, during most booking processes this Fee is made aware to guests multiple times. If the reservation is made online, it is included under the Terms and Conditions; as well as, the Reservation Summary prior to entering any contact and credit card information. When booking over the phone, a reservations agent will confirm the fee before processing. Additionally, if an email address is provided, the fee will be recognized on the email confirmation that is delivered. Lastly, upon arrival, the fee is detailed on the registration card one would receive from the front desk.

The Resort Fee includes overnight self-parking, in-room coffee, internet access, daily newspaper, two bottles of water per day and access to the fitness club and aquatic center. A resort fee is common with hotels similar to Lansdowne Resort. Thank you again for your comments, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Best,
Seth Petersen

This is considered the premier hotel/resort in the Dulles corridor. I remember that it used to be such an exclusive thing to stay at Lansdowne. However, on a recent stay, I noticed that they really need to invest in some significant maintenance to the hotel in order to bring it up to the standards that they claim for themselves. For instance, the paint and wall paper is chipped in many places. There are multiple stains on the granite countertops in the bathrooms. (I actually stayed two nights in two different rooms, both having the same maintenance issues). TVs are the old analog CRTs, not wide-screen LCDs that you would find in any of the chain hotels these days.

The prices are really steep for what you get, too. If this were a $99 hotel, then I would have no complaints. For $150, I expect more and it really doesn't match the level of other hotels in this price range. Also, this hotel is in a fairly remote area. There are no convenient restaurants nearby. The food is very good, but you will pay quite a high price for it. For example, a burger and fries will cost $15 plus tax. A Yuengling lager will cost $6 (you can buy a 6-pack of this beer for less than $6). And, don't forget to add the $18 resort fee to your room rate!

All in all, this is certainly not a bad place to stay, but the hotel should really consider investing their considerable profits into some much needed upgrades and maintenance.

My room with a king-sized bed was spacious, clean and comfortable with a view overlooking the golf course and the Virginia country side. However, I was not at all pleased with the $18 per night "resort fee' that was added on top of the nightly room fee. I was informed at the front desk that the fee covered use of the pool, health club (which I did not use) and water in the room (2 bottles of water per day). This fee was outlandish, and the ammenities should have been included in the regular fee.

In addition, the spa services were much higher than what I pay at my local salon, so I skiipped treating myself to a massage or facial. The customer service at the registration desk was snooty to boot. I liked the close proximity to the Leesburg outlets, but in the future I will stay at the Hampton Inn with continental breakfast for a lot less expense.

About 20 minutes from Dulles, Landsdowne Resort is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There' not much around if you do not have a car (which I didn't) and too far from DC to be worth the trip.

First impressions: The grounds are beautiful and very picturesque. It was nice to walk around the golf course and see the local houses. The conference center is very nice and there was always refreshments, which was great. The lobby was very nice too.

Rooms: Therooms are very average hotel rooms with old TVs but comfortable beds and updated bathrooms. It's very fine, expecially for a business trip. The bathroom amenities come from their spa and smelled great.

Overall, I would say this is a take it or leave it property unless you plan on staying at the resort and using the facilities.
