“Honeymoon overnight stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

Knowing this is an old motel was expecting the "old motel" type room. I planned this stay so my new wife got a look at a "theme" motel. She did very little traveling growing up. She loved the decor. I was extremely pleased with how clean the place was. Even to the point that I let the manager know I was impressed.

As one of of the other reviews pointed out, you only have hand/bath soap bars, so if you want anything else, you need to plan to bring it with you.

If I should need to stay in this area again, I will definately go here again. (I travel rt 29 at least once a year)

Room Tip: Our room was a single standard double bed. If you need a bed larger then a standard you might need t...

I first stayed here a year ago and was pleasantly surprised. This year it was maybe a little better--new paint and decor, etc. Very nice, very clean, good rates, friendly management. I used to stay in a motel in Amherst, but this is head and shoulders better. Only a few things to note:

1. Bring shampoo and stuff like that. They provide soap, but that's it. If you forget, there's a dollar store just up the road. But they do have wifi, and it works without a glitch.

2. No fridge, microwave, iron, hair dryer, or coffee maker, so plan accordingly. But it looks like they have free coffee in the office (don't drink the stuff, myself).

3. No outside ice maker, so you have to go to the office and ask for some. I think it comes from their kitchen. I prefer commercial-type stuff, so I get a bag from Food Lion.

4. Be sure to have dinner at the Briar Patch in Amherst while you're in the area. It's 18 mi down the road but worth the drive. The filet went up from $16 to $21 (bummer), but it's still one of the best I've ever had. And everything there, including the background music, is great. (Maybe check to see if they're open before making the drive. The place seems to burn down every couple years, but it always opens again.)

Overall, you can't go wrong.

We have stayed at the Village In occassionally over many, many years and were delighted to find it just as nice as always. We love the murals on the different rooms and the shower upgrade was fantastic this time! So clean, and room for the 6 of us (who stayed in 3 rooms) to gather in one room to visit. Love the early morning view of the field and mountain, also. New owners are just as helpful as the original owners. This is a unique property, without some of the 'bells and whistles' of the chains, but we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to stay, not a place to entertain you.
P. S. Be sure to explore the surrounding area, especially Mountain Cove Vineyard and Waltons' Mountain.

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2011

I called a week ahead to reserve a room for two adults for the July 4th Weekend for one night. The manager was very friendly, check-in went smooth and did not need to return to the office to check out, just leave the key on the table when you leave.

We were told in advance what room # in would be in, but that change after we showed up, which normally isn’t a problem but we had told some friends what room I would be in.

The room was not well lit at all, very low wattage light bulbs in all three rooms. It seemed very dark in the bed room area.

No hair dryer, no shampoo, no coffee maker, clean bath room and sink area. Direct TV with only a few channels to choose from. No pets allowed.

The single bed was very small probably what you would call a double bed, maybe (somewhere between a queen size and a twin bed). My head was against the headboard mounted to the wall and my feet were hanging off the end of the bed. I am 5'11".

The worst thing about this room was the AC did not work and we did not figure that out until we got back from a cookout with friends in Shipmen, Virginia around 11:30 pm that night. It was very hot (near 100 degrees) and humid that day and we were looking forward to getting back to the Motel to freshen up and cool off. I did not sleep at all that night because the bed was very uncomfortable and I could not get the AC to work at all.

We had a miserable stay at this Motel. When 6:00 am came we put everything in the car, turned on the AC in the car and headed back home without even taking a shower, it felt better outside the room than in the room.

Room was clean and habitable; bed ok. N/S room away from the main road so no traffic-noise issues. Manager was polite and helpful. Very good value for the price.
