We stayed here for a weekend while attending a family reunion in the area. We found the setting tranquil and picturesque. Richard and Deb were very accommodating, thoughtful and helpful. Richard even carried our larger pieces of luggage out to the car when we were leaving. The facility was clean and the home was decorated in a charming manner that was appropriate for the setting. The house has a good floor plan for a bed and breakfast.

We stayed in the Black Twig room, which I believe is the smallest room. The bathroom was large enough and had a walk in shower. At the time we did our booking, it was the only room left. We felt a bit cramped especially with our luggage open. If we return, we would book far enough in advance to get a larger room. Our visit was in the fall and the heat had not been turned on yet, so we were a little on the chilly side right before bedtime. Once we got to sleep we were warm enough and an extra blanket was available if we needed it. Overall the room was small but comfortable. The cookies left in our room and the sodas and the pure water available outside of our room were a nice touch.

Room Tip: I would recommend one of the larger slightly more expensive rooms, but the smaller ones are certainl...

My wife and I stayed at Orchard House B&B to celebrate our 20th. We really enjoyed our stay with the cozy rooms and wonderful breakfasts. I liked the single cup coffee maker outside our door. This place is a located near a lot of fun places. During our stay we visited 4 wineries and 2 breweries. Also, we really enjoyed the Nellysford Farmers Market where there was lots of treasures to be found. We highly recommend this place as a great place to get away and relax.

Room Tip: The bathroom in the Black Twig was small. Fortunately my wife and I are rather small. I had to be...

We found Orchard House as a link while planning a visit to Walton's Mountain in Schuyler. We booked one night as a "base" for visiting there, as well as Appomattox, Monticello and Charlottesville. Everything from the view from the driveway, the beauty and convenience of the room (we really recommend the York Imperial), and Richard's tips were a wonderful surprise. This part of our trip was better than all our expectations. Richard and Deb are awesome hosts, and they never steared us wrong about places to eat, wineries to visit, or even the best roads to take for an easier or more scenic drive. Can't wait to go back!!!

We had a great weekend stay and wine tour with Orchard House. Even though the location is a bit farther from the DC area than some other VA wine country B&Bs, we found this to be a great value and loved the fact that our host offered his own wine tour. What a great personal touch and an enjoyable experience at all four wineries we tried. And the breakfasts truly are fantastic! The only downside is that it is a little easy to get woken up by movement from neighboring rooms, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Beautiful setting and grounds, plentiful breakfast served at 9am, friendly on-site keepers, close to a load of wineries and breweries and cider makers. Also close to live theater and charming towns nearby, hiking and some really good dining. It was quiet, private, spotlessly clean and has a nice sitting area, board games for rainy days and is a great place to write or sleep or just get away from it all.

Room Tip: Northern Spy room has a big bay window facing a forested slope, we liked the remote feel of that.

Excellent in every respect and we thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary trip. This is a very good location from which to check out the wineries in central VA, much more convenient than a place in Charlottesville. We started every morning with a wonderful breakfast (love the maple egg cups), were out and about all day, and then came back to a relaxing and peaceful evening back at the house. The wine tour is informative and about teaching you about local wine and wine in general. The others seem to be more about simply chauffering you from place to place. The local industry folks are familiar with them and you won't be steered wrong.
