“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 24 March 2011

Chose to stay here as it was an historic building (former shoe factory) redone into a beautiful modern hotel. (Also, the mascot is a dog that stays at the hotel and we loved that.) The rooms are clean and nicely appointed and the staff is both professional and helpful. The decorations of the hotel have a "shoe" theme that runs throughout and is whimsical and well done. Continental Breakfast is delivered in an old wooden shoe box to the door. It is a nice touch. All of the restaurants associated with the hotel are great and are located on the property. If we have the opportunity to return to Lynchburg, we will stay here, again. If going to Lyncburg, we would highly recommend this Hotel as it is on the James River in the old downtown area.

The shoe theme that's used throughout this former shoe factory is fantastic, from the huge red pump on the building to the shoeshine kits that hold the continental breakfast. The rooms have a great loft feel but with very comfortable, even luxurious, furnishings. The bathroom also looks like a part of a modern NYC loft. The staff were extremely helpful. All in all, a terrific place to stay.

This hotel was beautiful - the exposed walls and ceiling were stunning, the bathroom was elegant, and the building complex was very aesthetically pleasing. The morning breakfast delivery was also quite charming, being in an old-fashion shew box. It does come quite early, however, but I am certainly not complaining. The trains were not disturbing for us, indeed it was part of the charm of the hotel and old city. Lastly, Buster (the hotel dog) was the cutest, and we miss his nosey snout already!

I travel almost every week for work. Given that, I can be a hote snob. I absolutely loved this place. The staff, the room, and amenities were awesome. I look forward to staying again my next visit to Lynchburg, Va.

My husband and I took a break for the weekend at the Craddock Terry. We were looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Quiet was not to be had in room 501 because our room was located directly above the bar of Shoemaker's restaurant. I am talking music, laughter, and a telephone ringing as if it were in our room. At first we thought the noise originated above us. We asked the clerk at the front desk if there was a banquet hall there; she said yes, adding that there had been a rehearsal dinner there the night before. She then reassured us that it would be quiet that night because nothing was booked. Relief.

The party started again at 3:00 Saturday afternoon while we tried to take a leisurely nap on our quiet weekend. The noise became so ridiculous that my husband left to determine where the noise was coming from. He rode the elevator one floor down and stepped directly into the bar of Shoemakers. Turns out that there was no banquet room above us (it is for storage); it was the bar all along.

We approached the front desk again and were told that the hotel was booked so we could not be moved to another room. Later, another clerk told us that this concern had been brought to the owners in the past.

And just when we thought we were beyond the revelry...we were awakened by non guests getting off the elevator from Shoemakers (PASS NOT REQUIRED FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO ARE DRINKING BELOW AT THE BAR). Were they threatening or a danger? No, but they could have been. At the very least they were a nuisance and yet another disturbance in our "quiet" weekend. They snapped a few photosof the "cute!" paintings of shoes on our room door and then left.

THIS IS A PROBLEM. BE AWARE.

We really like the hotel, and would stay in the future but NEVER anywhere but the main building away from the two restaurants.

I booked a block of rooms for guests and a suite for my fiancee/wife for our wedding. The booking process was easy and the staff went out of their way to please. However, after reserving what I was told was their best suite, it was unfortunately given to someone else before we checked-in due to some internal mistake. They did give us a gift certificate to the restaurant, but I'm still a little letdown. Regardless, the rooms are unique, swank, and romantic and the staff continued to go out of their way to please.

If I had a reason to stay in a hotel in Lynchburg again, I would want to stay in the Craddock.
