“The Best of the Best!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

My husband and I just returned yesterday from a fantastic stay at The Craddock Terry Hotel. There is not enough space to tell you all the great things about this hotel. From the warm greeting in the lobby, to the offer of cupcakes and lemonade, to our spacious, clean and comfortable room, to the wonderful meal we ate at Waterstone Restaurant (on property), we could just go on and on. This is one of our favorite hotels of anywhere we stay. We are already planning a return trip in a month or so. Also enjoyed playing with Buster Brown in the lobby area (the hotel mascot dog). This place really goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. We love The Craddock Terry!!!

only stayed one night but wish it could have been longer.. from our arrival to departure we were treated like royalty.. everyone at the front desk was so friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome.. from detailed maps to directions to dining suggestions, they were so helpful.. the rooms were elegant and very spacious.. the furniture was beautiful as was the bedding.. the huge bathroom and shower were a treat.. we enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much and would recommend it without hesitation.. thank you Craddock Terry Hotel

Stayed two nights for a college graduation, during which all the hotels in town-including this one was fully booked.
The hotel is pristine, the service is above par, the rooms are spacious and above all the beds are really comfortable.
Great stay and would highly recommend picking this hotel.
The only downside is we needed a roll away bed and didn't get one because they only had a handful....

Our trip was the week following a fiery explosion of a train of oil cars but one would never know it from the professionalism and warmth of the staff during the entire time of our stay. Everyone went above and beyond to take care of even our smallest request. Can not wait to visit again!

In the "Burg" for a business outing and was booked at the Craddock Terry. My room was a suite. Well appointed furnishings, incredible bathroom, all in a historic location.

The front desk was simply perfect. Gracious, friendly and knowledgable. There were a couple of things that needed to be taken care of before the function. These folks hit the mark. Enough said.

When our group arrived back at the hotel at 9:00 pm, we headed to Shoemakers Restaurant, on property. There will be a separated review however, it is worth mentioning here that the hotel should be very proud of the decor, food and, most importantly, the staff.

When we left the following morning I called my wife and told her we have another great place to stay when visiting family.

Thank you for a great stay.

My husband and I stayed one night. We got a suite that faced a construction site. The room was very nice, but when you go outside to walk along the bridge to go to the main building, it smells like raw sewage. The bathtub in our room would not stop up, so no way to enjoy a nice hot bath. The trains run all night and even though we brought our lite jazz CD to help drowned out the train, that does not work. The breakfast was a joke. It was an ice cold muffin with some kind of cheese, warm OJ, fruit and warm yogurt. Needless to say, I did not eat the breakfast. Oh and they only give you one breakfast for 2 people.

We paid almost 300 dollars for a room that was maybe worth 150 if that.

Thank you for taking time to post a review. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. As you can tell by most of our TripAdvisor posts by guest, when they leave us, they are saying “when can we come back?!”

I wish I had an opportunity to speak with you during your stay, or even now, but I can’t locate your reservation based on your reviewer name. It sounds like you visited during the on-start of a necessary repair to the City’s Downtown water system adjacent to the property. While I certainly appreciate it’s not a desirable welcome, it is an unfortunate necessary evil, and the final piece of the Bluffwalk expansion project along the James River that is thankfully coming to a close.

The tracks that pass behind the Craddock Terry along the James River are freight lines and have no set schedule. Trains may not run through at all, or may pass by a couple times during the course of the day. We have investigated ways to lessen the number of horns that are blown, and also to change the signaling arms. Any path to change it would cost us several million dollars, which, for a small boutique hotel is not practical. So, I won't make any excuses for the train noises – they are here. I think most guests chalk it all up to being part of the experience. I will say that we have received so many comments and notes from guests who grew up near train tracks and the sound of the horn reminds them of home. It's nostalgic for them.

Lastly, I can appreciate that our breakfast offering may not have suited your personal tastes. Generally a property of our styling does not provide a complimentary breakfast. We see this as a unique opportunity to provide a delivered service for our guests which really differentiates us. The delivery of the European continental style breakfast is attributable to a boutique hotel and the fact that it arrives in an old-fashioned shoe shine kit is generally a big hit with our clientele. The croissant and small wheel of brie is quite attractive to most, combined with fresh cut fruit, fresh juice and jams is usually well received. Those more familiar with the chain hotels may find this a little light in content.

It sounds like a combination of variables culminated leaving you with an unpleasant experience, which is not the norm or our wish for you. When you have a moment, please contact the Hotel and ask for me directly. My name is Todd Swindell, I am the Hotel Director. I would love to find out more about your stay and determine how we can make your next one much more enjoyable.
