What a perfect bit if serendipity it was for us to come across the site for the Carriage House Inn B&B while searching for the perfect place to elope! My fiancé and I had looked online at hotels, inns, B&Bs and so many possible places in Virginia to stay. We were looking for a beautiful, relaxed setting in which to spend 5 days, during which, we would get married. After all of the research, we both agreed that the Carriage House had that special something. Other than deciding to get married, this was our second-best decision!
I’m not quite sure if I can put into words the wonderful time my new husband and I spent there. It will forever remain one of the most beautiful and memorable times of my life, not the least of which was due to the innkeepers. To say that Kathy and Mike pay strict attention to detail is an understatement. They made sure that every part of our stay was just perfect. Perfect!
When I called to make the reservation, I asked Kathy if there was anywhere around the inn that would be a good place to hold a tiny wedding ceremony (just the bride and groom) Kathy generously offered to let us get married there at the inn! We were surprised, excited, and grateful. She offered to arrange for the wedding day, a small cake, my bridal bouquet, and the groom’s boutonniere, and with gratitude we accepted the offer. She emailed us a list of a few celebrants in the area for me to contact, which we did. She also sent us a list of local restaurants and when we’d made our choices, she made the reservations for each dinner.
The inn and the grounds are outstanding. The work done by Kathy and Mike to bring the house to its previous glory as in the days of the Watts family is impeccable. The antiques, the décor, the setting, each and every room was a joy to discover. The breakfasts were exceptionally planned and prepared. We looked forward to them each morning as yummy foundations to start the days, and an opportunity chat with the other guests and the innkeepers.
Everything was perfect when the wedding day arrived. We had chosen the veranda on the front of the house as the background for the ceremony. Kathy and Mike arrange the furniture and décor for us. Mike actually took photos and a video of the event for us! Talk about going above and beyond!!! Kathy had chilled our bottle of champagne. After the vows, they brought it, champagne flutes, and the cake outside to us, and then retired inside to let us to savor the moment.
Days later upon checkout, they presented us with a most thoughtful and creative gift…. Kathy had taken our empty champagne bottle, thrown it in her kiln (of course she has a kiln!) and flattened it into a sweet little cheese tray as a memento of the wedding day.
We will forever treasure the memories of our time spent at the Carriage Inn B&B, and be grateful for the experience Kathy and Mike helped us to create. We will return for anniversaries, and already look forward to seeing them again. You can count of wonderful remembrances should you choose a stay here.
