As an executive for an international company I travel extensively and often stay in the “best” hotels in the world. A couple of weeks ago I had an opportunity to travel to Lynchburg, Virginia. Fortunately for me, my secretary was unable to find a five star hotel so she booked me into a suite at the Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast. Everything was perfect. The room was oversized, the sheets were better than those at the Ritz (my opinion) and Kathy and Michael take breakfast to a level I have not seen before. The property was amazing.

I have stayed in great hotels in the past but have never felt the need to write a review but what made this trip different was the enthusiasm of the owners to make my stay memorable. They had everything I needed to hold a business meeting, and went out of their way to make sure no detail was overlooked. My advice to them was to double their rates as many people expect what they pay for, but here I got even more than I anticipated. I can recommend anyone traveling on business or pleasure to book a stay at the Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast for world class service and a stay in a wonderful historic mansion.

Making the reservation on-line was easy and we received a call the next day by the inn keeper (Kathy) to verify our reservation. When we arrived, we were met at the driveway and assisted with our luggage. There were freshly baked cookies waiting for us at the door. Our room was roomy and gorgeous - the furnishings were perfectly matched to the historic period of the house. There were extra touches, such as fresh cut flowers in a vase on the desk, and that evening when we returned from our daughter's recital, our bedding was turned down, and a special touch was the chocolates on a silver tray, as well as snacks and drinks being made available. The special care and attention the inn keepers have provided to detail to restore the Watts house to its original historic beauty is evident everywhere, from the stained wood work in the stairway and doorways to the ornate trim, fixtures, furniture and colors in every room. There are even antiques, such as a Singer sewing machine, baker's pantry, dishes, plumbing and light fixtures that match the period perfectly, making you feel as if you stepped back in time. The location was convenient to the main roads and we were able to travel around the city to reach our destinations within minutes. The gourmet breakfast was delightful and delicious! The innkeepers, Mike and Kathy, were very attentive and friendly. Mike gave us a tour of the grounds before we left to show us the restoration to the carriage house and the plans for the gardens and pond. This inn is also environmentally friendly and "green", with an incredible rainwater collection system installed that will water the garden in the summer. We have stayed at several area hotels during our visits to Lynchburg, but found staying at the Inn was a better value, considering the plush furnishings, snacks and drinks, and gourmet breakfast being served, as well as the attentive service. We have already reserved rooms for future trips.

After a 3 day stay in Washington DC we were looking for a more laid back and relaxing environment for a few days. After a search we ended up in Lynchburg VA. Not the most common choice in the Virginia area, but it turnt out to be a good one.

Kathy and Mike run their B&B in a beautifully restored large house and they run it in a truly great and warm atmosphere. The house in itself is beautifull (we stayed in the RM Watts room) but the attention for details make the stay wonderfull and relaxing.

Every morning we enjoyed a really great breakfast with original and delicious dishes. Every question we had adressed and Kathy and Mike really spoiled us during our 3 night stay.

We have been the first non-US customers butt we highly recommend the Carriage B&B if you are looking for a relaxing stay a bit of the beaten path in this area. There are beautiful hikes (Peaks of Otter) and scenic drives closeby in the neighbourhoud.

Give it a try sometime, you will like it.

We had never been to Lynchburg before - but were quite pleased with our visit to the area (there's a lot to see and do - the nearby National D-Day Memorial, in particular, is truly amazing . . . and sobering) - and the Carriage House was a wonderful base of operations!

The owners, Mike and Kathy, are truly friendly, knowledgeable, and talented (both in terms of the hands-on work they've done with regard to renovating their property and in terms of the scrumptious breakfast that they serve).

The rooms are very comfortable, immaculate, and nicely decorated with interesting furniture, artwork, and rugs - and the property is located conveniently close to Lynchburg's Main Street and historic downtown. Business travelers will also find it to be good value and a very nice place to stay.

We would definitely stay here again!

A friend recommended we make a trip to Lynchburg and stay at The Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast. Ok where is Lynchburg and what is there to do? As soon as we arrived at the B and B we were inspired. The house was absolutely gorgeous. We had morning coffee and afternoon drinks on the huge porch and that was great. Just a couple blocks down the street we found hiking trails and bike paths. We waked to downtown restaurants for dinner. We borrowed a fishing pole and went fishing (they weren’t biting) in the James River only three blocks from the house.

We visited Thomas Jefferson’s summer house which is where he escaped to avoid the crowds in Charlottesville. The D-Day memorial was very moving and is worth visiting. Appomatox Courthouse was also very interesting. Three days later we had to say goodby and head back home without doing half of the things we wanted to do once we got there.

Lynchburg is somewhat off the beaten path but this is a must see place and if you make it there, the only place to stay is The Carriage House Inn. The restoration work was magnificent and the hosts, Kathy and Mike were the best. Breakfast was too good for words. We stayed in the Emma Watts Room and it was comfortable, clean, and the old tub was wonderful.
