Royal Oaks Cabins
Reviewed 3 October 2013

The website is misleading. Mountain views are poor, cabins are not well maintained, accommodations are outdated, no phone or internet service available, owners are unprofessional and dishonest, and service is non-existent after store closes.

My husband and I decided to spend a much-needed "date weekend" away from our family business. We work very hard and were looking for a somewhat secluded, quiet place to spend our weekend. We chose Royal Oaks Cabins without references, and were going only by what we saw on-line. Our choice was perfect! The private cabins, as well as the owners of Royal Oaks were absolutely wonderful!

The cabins were very cute, clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our weekend. We enjoyed the gas fireplace and had a jetted tub in the room. The owners were very hospitable and eager to help with anything we needed. They worked with us on staying an extra day, they offered us tons of guidance on where to go, and let us know about festivals/happenings going on in the area for the weekend.

I highly recommend Royal Oaks if you are looking for that rustic yet comfortable get-away in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. We will go back again!

This was my first time in the mountains on a vacation and it turned out to be fabulous. The chalet at Royal Oaks had everything, plenty of room, beautiful views and all of the amenities{ clean rooms, full kitchen, fireplace, grill}. My favorite activity was the hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains. There is nothing as relaxing or romantic than sitting in the tub with a harvest moon rising overhead. I think something magical happens in a place like this. Besides all of the activities in the area{hiking, skiing, driving and checking out the beautiful overlooks}, just relaxing in the chalet was a welcome change. This type of vacation can be anything you want. We had a nice mixture of both the activities and enjoying the chalet. Also, the staff at Royal Oaks was very helpful with directions and really make you feel comfortable. I am hoping to return. This experience could become a habit for me.

Room Tip: The chalet has everything. Lots of room, beautiful views and privacy. I can't comment on the cab...

Royal Oaks is a fabulous place to stay when seeking a mountain retreat with gorgeous views, peaceful surroundings, and friendly hosts. To celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, I was looking for such a venue. Keith Smith and his wife provided us with a memorable experience that we will not soon forget. We stayed in cabin 5, which was clean, inviting, and comfortable. I had brought the ingredients to cook a special dinner and found the electric stovetop/oven to be very efficient--if the weather had allowed, we would have used the outside grill. The microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator were all clean and worked perfectly. Bear in mind that there is no cell phone reception or cable TV on Love Mountain --there is free wi-fi that worked perfectly and free movies/DVDs for guests--but that just added to our experience of "getting away from it all". When we arrived, it was very foggy and raining lightly, but that did not prevent our use of the hot tub, located in the gazebo directly behind the cabin: we enjoyed the hot tub without getting our heads wet! Although we did not use the full-size fireplace in the living room on this trip, we would like to do so when we return...and we DO intend to return.

Room Tip: Cabin 5 fit the bill for our needs; all cabins and chalets are situated for privacy and have individ...

Our group of six adults and two children stayed Aug. 13-15, 2013 in chalet 13. We could not have been more pleased. The chalet inside and outside was very clean; the beds comfortable; lots of towels; the kitchen fully equipped for our needs; a welcome grill; inviting exterior hot tub; pleasant, large, cathedral-ceiling common room with DVD (and lots of free DVDs to borrow from the office). The proprietor, Keith Smith, was a fount of useful information and hiking/visiting tips. The photos on the web site fairly represent what we found. The entire property is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the view from the chalet is outstanding.

We included six family members visiting from France, and they left with an extremely positive impression. We liked it so well that the two of us living in Virginia have reserved a smaller chalet there for October 2013.

We visited 29 Aug - 1 Sep....4 families + little to no electronic connectivity + peace + beautiful views + nature + Royal Oaks Cabins = an awesome mini-vacation/before school getaway! Our second visit and we will definitely be going back. Now understand you will be visiting and staying in "cabins/chalets" on a mountain, in the woods, with nature! Understand this and you will be pleasantly surprised and satisfied! Too bad the rain cancelled our Bonfire...I was really looking forward to some S'mores! Thanks so very much Keith and family!

Stayed only one night and enjoyed our time there very much. Had a great BBQ on the grill outside our cabin, smores' on the campfire in the ring provided and some of the best star gazing ever on the property in an open meadow just a short walk from the cabin we were in. Don't expect hotel accomodations and you won't be disappointed....the cabin was comfortable for the three of us and had all the basics we needed for our time there Great front porch to relax and enjoy dining al fresco. Grocery store was about a 20 minute drive and a national park with lake is 3 miles away.....walking distance to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
