“Quiet location in the mountains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

We are staying in The Summit in Grenoble Woods this week. We have two bedroom which sleeps six. This is a large spotless unit with a gas fireplace, a bathroom with a huge jacuzzi as well as a shower in both baths. The kitchen is well equipped, with great appliances. We had a good meal at Fareways restaurant, and eaten at a couple close restaurants, as well as two in Harrisonburg. This is a beautiful spot in the mountains with tame deer wandering around. Today we saw a baby black bear cub run across the road. There are several things to do around here that cost very little, and other interesting things nearby

We own at Massanutten. We traded our week and ended up staying a different week at the Summit. It was a great disappointment. Mice droppings in the knife and fork drawer. Called Maintenance and they brought up 2 mouse traps. Next day one was caught. Next day watching tv and one kept popping it head up in the fireplace. Again they brought two more up. The whirlpool had 2 screws laying on top of it and it was not very clean. The tub had hair in the drain. I don't know who has been cleaning the unit but we found a pill bottle dated two years ago in one drawer which we pitched. We had a handicapped unit and they really need to make some changes. I will only stay at our Woodstone or Regal Vistas and pass on the Summit.

Plenty of activities to keep you busy. A car is necessary to get around because you are on a mountain. Accommodations are clean and spacious. If you survive the timeshare sales pitch you will enjoy your stay. P

We sorta hunkered down during the worst of the storm inside. The units in this section of the Summit were redone 2 years ago. It was nicely decorated, tiled floor in bathrooms and kitchen, granite counter top, extra large bathroom with huge jacuzzi tub and separate shower area. Two bedrooms and sofa bed sleeps 6 people. Gas fireplace was well used this week as the hurricane Sandy brought freezing rains and snow to the Summit. We were disappointed that hiking, kayaking, tubing and other outdoor activities where not available as the weather stopped all of that. A short hike was taken up the ridge with good views before the rain came. We made trips into Harrisburg for dinner, movies and even Starbucks. Luray Caverns is a 40 minutes drive and Graves Mountain Lodge with apple fests not far from there. We have enjoyed riding into the local areas seeing old farms and houses and visited a small Methodist church built in the 1850s. We still have a few more days and sun is coming out today so hopefully we can take a horseback trail ride soon. There are many activities listed in the resorts handout and most have a fee which we didn't want to pay. The Fairways restaruant for a basic breakfast was hot and plenty of food with very good service and pleasant atmosphere. The buffet at the Waterpark area restaruant was decent with a carving table serving ham and a hot pasta bar otherwise it was pretty basic buffet food.

Room Tip: condo like rooms with upper levels and lower level both have great views however some are the still...

We loved our stay at the Summit Hillside at Massanutten Resort. The atmosphere is very nice. The accommodations were considered "gold star" for this resort, and we're quite nice and cozy. We had a partial kitchen, and all other major appliances. It was a really well accommodated room. We had a 8 month old and a nine year old, and the room worked perfectly. Great stay, would definitely recommend this to others.

We live in Florida and try to go to Massanutten every year just to spend a week in the mountains. The views are wonderful and if you want to do stuff, there is a lot of stuff to do: golf the mountain course, float down the Shenandoah river, visit wineries, go see Thomas Jefferson's house, hike the ridge of the mountain, swim, visit one of the better water parks around, or as we do frequently sip a nice glass of wine on the balcony and watch the wildlife. Lots of deer and ground hogs and the occasional bear. You will need a car, it is spread out all over the place. There are a lot of activities on the property, most of which have a charge. We usually get a four bedroom unit and bring family or friends with us. The upper units have a full kitchen and screened in porch; the lower units have an open balcony with a gas grill in lieu of the electric range in the upper units; otherwise it also is a full kitchen. I prefer the lower unit with the grill.

The physical condition of the place and individual units is excellent. The landscaping is well done and the units are large with nice furniture and well stocked.

We did not visit attractions. There were tons of pamphlets describing things to do. If you are a civil war buff, you would love this place. We went for a quiet vacation. We did eat at the Blue Ridge buffet and it was very good. The resort has many activities. I did spend a day at the water park and it was excellent.

The resort is huge. It is the largest resort we have stayed at. The units are organized into little neighborhoods and give the feeling that you are staying in a small place. To get to hot tubs or pools, you will need a car - something that was a little strange for us.
The furniture in the unit was upscale but beginning to show signs of wear and tear. There is a large LCD TV with DVD player in the living room and a smaller one in each of the bedrooms.
The master bedroom was excellent; the beds in the second bedroom were not twins, but more like youth beds. Just did not fit with the level of the unit. There is a huge whirlpool in the second bath; you probably could get 4 people in there comfortably - six would be cozy :-) This feature would be very appreciated during the ski season. The shower in the second bath was way too small. Strange, because there was plenty of room to make it bigger.
There was a nice screened in porch with mountain views and regular visits from the deer. The kitchen was well stocked. There is a shared washer and dryer outside the unit. Grocery stores and any kind of shopping are available in Harrisonburg, approximately 15-20 minutes away.
The check in folks were busy but very polite. The sales people were not very professional and were not interested in our feedback. When I finally succumbed to the guilt trip to attend a presentation, they failed to coordinate with the tour givers and somehow that was my problem to fix. In any event, I did not do the tour.
This place is nice and quiet.
There are many activities sponsored by the resort if you want to keep busy. As usual, we met some interesting people at the hot tub.
