Cave Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed 13 August 2014

I booked one night at Cave Hill for my wife and I for our 5th wedding anniversary, and we both would have loved to have stayed a few days longer (we have very busy schedules, and rarely even get one night per week alone together). It was a beautiful house, and our hosts Hannah and Omar could not have been better. We stayed in the Gold Room, which was perfect for our needs, and we even had the place to ourselves most of the time while we were there. We were initially a little leery about not having keys, since we were informed that our hosts were going out the evening we were staying, but then we didn't realize until the next morning that they actually live on site (I had checked the whole place from top to bottom- minus the "private" room- when we got back in after dinner and a movie in nearby Harrisonburg). The peace and quiet were wonderful- a cornfield on one side & cow fields leading off to Massanutten Mountain on the other. Only 15 minutes from Harrisonburg, I-81, shopping & restaurants, but still far enough out in the country so that you won't notice any of the above. My wife is also fond of quilting, so we visited the Virginia Quilt Museum the next day, and the B&B is within a short ride to Skyline Drive, Luray Caverns, or New Market Battlefield. And, if you're into history you'll love the house- from the 1830's, filled with antiques from the mid-19th century to the early 20th. If we're lucky enough to return w/ our little girl someday then we'll have to try out the antique high chair & swing! Hannah and Omar were very accommodating & made us feel at home- good coffee & challah French toast in the morning... plus, there was free beer, soda & bottled water in the fridge. I paid a little extra for the "romance" package & we thoroughly enjoyed the red wine that was selected, and my wife loved the roses. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Room Tip: From what we could tell the Gold Room was the only one that faced two sides of the house.

This was our first time in a B&B, and the experience set the bar very high for future B&B visits. The young innkeepers are adorable, accommodating, and very well informed about the house, its contents, and the family who lived there. I love that most of the furnishings throughout the house have been handed down from the original family, and the rest come from the local area. We would return in a heartbeat, and will recommend Cave Hill Farm to friends traveling to Shenandoah National Park--perfect location and easy to find. We enjoyed every moment that we spent there.

I stayed at Cave Hill last night with my husband, we chose to stay here for our wedding night. The innkeepers were awesome, they made us feel so welcome, at home and special. They brought us breakfast upstairs so we could have a more private meal and allowed us to come late because of our wedding, and were not agitated that it was late or anything. The room was beautiful, the fireplace was so romantic and added so much to the room and it had a great setting where you could turn it on without heat coming out, which was nice since it is July. We already decided we will be going back at least once a year. Next time I hope to have enough time to look through the house which is encouraged by the innkeepers.

Our stay made us feel like we were part of the family at Cave Hill. The innkeepers are very nice and very professional, but also down to earth and accommodating. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed every second of it. The breakfast was really delicious (we had French toast) and the breakfast atmosphere was great. We'll definitely be back.

The building has a lot of history and is very interesting. The breakfasts were good, not exceptional. The location can't be beat- it's close to Massanutten, Harrisonburg, and Shenandoah. There were some issues with cleanliness, in particular in the kitchen. The rooms are nice and comfortable however the doors do not have locks, which was concerning. While we received fresh towels after several nights, the bed was not made up nor trash emptied during the duration of our stay.
Not a bad experience however there is a lot of room for improvement.

This place was just what we wanted - quiet, quaint, and within driving distance of the Shenandoahs and Harrisonburg. Each room is named after a family member of the owner. You really feel like you're a guest in someone's house. The couple that runs the B&B are charming and very kind. Our room had great views of the mountains and the cows. And the breakfast was delicious!

We had dinner in Harrisonburg, just about 20 minutes from Cave Hill. The main selling point for us in booking our stay was the close proximity to Skyline Drive.

We were a little disappointed in the fireplace. The website led us to believe that our room had a working fireplace. Turns out they only have electric fireplaces.

Overall, a wonderful visit!

Well, I have something in common with some reviewers of this B&B. It was my boyfriend and I's first stay at a B&B and we will probably stick with B&B's from now on when at all possible. The price was reasonable and affordable for our one night stay which was important. We also got to get away from the corporate hotel chains and mediocre complimentary breakfasts for a place where you really feel like you're staying at your family's house. Proximity to the Massanutten Resort was also important and it is only a 5-10 minute drive to the resort entrance. The rooms were very pretty with antiques and homey touches everywhere. It's also located in a pretty area by a farm and nearby some GORGEOUS homes. Our room was very nice/clean with an electric fireplace that will really get you toasty. The bed and linens were soft and smelt very fresh and clean. The bathroom was also spacious and well kept. I only have small comments but they can mostly be attributed to lack of experience with B&B's and more accustomed to hotels. The bathroom didn't have a hair dryer which was unfortunate but not a huge problem. The bed was soft (the way I prefer) but the pillows were also soft. Too soft. The only recommendation I'd make to the innkeepers is to consider mixing some firm pillows in with the soft pillows on the bed. Breakfast was delicious too and filling for a day on the slopes. Harrisonburg is also only about 15 minutes away so this is a great place for parents to stay while visiting their kids at JMU. All in all, it was a great place and we'd love to stay there again if we are in the area.
