I hesitate writing a review of Primland because I would love for it to remain a secret, but the team at Primland deserve for everyone to know that their service is impeccable at every turn with a real sense of caring and concern. Food is absolutely amazing; if you have a chance to experience the Chef's Table, you are in for a wonderful evening. The spa is one of the best in the country. I could go on and on. Choose Primland and you will experience relaxation at its best.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are wonderful! You cannot possibly make a wrong choice.

Service and attention to detail by the staff was exceptional across all areas of Primland ... check-in/out, housekeeping, restaurants, spa, Orvis shop, 5 stand and sporting clays, acquatics/kayaking. No item or detail went unnoticed. Property and Lodge are some of the best in the South and beyond. My wife and I will become frequent visitors.

From the service to the amenities there is absolutely nothing lacking here. Everyone and everything was perfect and pleasant. Not only can you create your own special experience with staff assistance but the ambiance and environment as well as the rooms are truly luxurious . It was an incredible vacation in an unexpected place . I highly recommend it to everyone and chefs table was the highlight as well as the tree climbing . The room decor is fantastic and excellent value (we stayed at the lodge) with a romantic feel. I would recommend the transportation though the hotel - we rented a car but the staff is so willing to please that they will make arrangements to pick up and drop off for all activities. Coming here was truly a dream and wonderful experience .

Primland is the best kept secret and my only hesitation in an excellent review is that the word is getting out. However, credit is due to the resort and staff who make this an exceptional experience. From the moment you arrive, you notice something very different. The lodge, surroundings and staff are everything you expect in a top resort. What sets Primland apart is that you feel as if you have it to yourself. The lodge has few, but large rooms and the others are spread around the property. The limited number of guests and extensive grounds and activities give you as peace and privacy as you desire. The activities are first rate and the food is excellent. There are no bad views anywhere and the design of the rooms has been thoughtfully considered and crafted for a first rate experience. You will find yourself not wanting to leave your room at time.

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night anniversary trip.

Pros:
- rooms were amazing and had every detail imaginable (we stayed in the Lodge)
- the service that we received from all staff members was exceptional
- we are from Charlotte and it was a close getaway (just over 2 hours)
- very unique activities that you cannot find at many resorts - fly fishing, skeet shooting, ATV riding, tree climbing, etc.)
- 12,000 acre property was beautiful
- Spa experience was wonderful (but you pay for it)
- Golf course is highly rated but we do not play golf

Cons:
- most of the activities were at the base of the mountain which is a 7 mile drive down a curvy road. One day my husband went down to fly fish, came back up to get me and we went back down to ride ATVs and then back up to the lodge - lots of driving
- drinks were priced significantly above the typical luxury resort mark up that is already expected
- food was good but not amazing and there are only 2 restaurant choices. I would also recommend a few more vegetarian options or at least careful attention to orders. I ordered an egg white omelet with spinach and tomatoes one morning and the tomatoes had been sautéed in bacon. At another meal, I ordered a spinach salad and asked for no bacon dressing or bacon on the salad. The dressing request was met, but the salad still had bacon on it. Another time I asked for grits instead of hash browns and received hash browns (was corrected).
- our bill was incorrect at checkout by several hundred dollars - the problem was solved but it was a slight hassle as we were leaving

If you are relatively close by, I would recommend leaving early one morning and staying only 2 nights but having almost 3 full days to do activities.

Room Tip: As others have said call and speak to a reservations agent.

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers here,,,I hate to give a good review because I would love to keep this place a secret. Beautiful golf course, fabulous spa, excellent food and service, not to mention the wonderful accommodations. We just spent a lovely summer weekend there and really didn't have time to enjoy all the activities. Guess we'll have to go back!

Room Tip: Room 28--best room in the house--or so we were told :)

If you like first rate amenities, friendly and courteous service and terrific cuisine this is for you. Golf course is outstanding, and I heard from my wife that the spa is terrific as well. All personnel are friendly and try as hard as possible to exceed your expectations. The rooms are well designed and modern. Our only minor complaint was that it was cloudy each evening so we could not take advantage of the observatory. Oh well, gives us another reason to return.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Escape There are many people at Primland with an abiding respect for the land, who know the sounds and smells of the forest so intimately, they will open your eyes to the simple pleasure of a mountain getaway at this refined East Coast vacation resort. They will show you the subtleties of nature and reacquaint you with the restorative powers of silence. Your server will remember just how you take your drink, your children's names and that you like a freshly baked cookie after lunch. You will sense the love your wilderness guide has for the mountain and all its creatures, and the depth of his expertise. You will always find a kind word, authentic humor and an open heart. It was the vision of Primland's founder, Didier Primat, to create a place of immense beauty that offers his guests a return to simple human pleasures in an environment of refined authenticity and sensuality. He developed Primland in an eco-conscious and thoughtful manner, as the ultimate retreat for world-class golf, refined dining and outdoor activities. Our love of the land is expressed in our extensive efforts to minimize our impact on nature, the freshness of our food, the many organic, sustainable ingredients we source locally or grow in our organic garden and the care with which we look after our guests. Didier Primat instilled his passion for Primland in every member of his family and staff , and they carry forward his legacy with soul, with heart and with a commitment to genuine hospitality. Art is an important part of the Primland experience. We consider hospitality to be an art that involves sharing emotion and pleasure through attention to even the most subtle detail. We also feel that surrounding you with inspired pieces of art enhances your experience. Throughout The Lodge, you will find hand-selected works by American artists as well as authentic and rare Aboriginal paintings from the most remote Australian territories. ... more   less
