I almost feel like a traitor having stayed here for decades. But some petty rules have arrived. Apparently making up your own packed lunch on the kitchen table is now not allowed. Cake I had taken for my friends was frowed on and removed because the host may be liable if a guest became ill from eating it!. The tradditional Stlton left one night failed to appear the next and was substituted by rubber Brie straight from the fridge. Those staying in the lodge found it smelt of dog and the cleaning had left dog hairs on the bedding. Clothing smelt of dog when they returned home.
This was a most dissapointing visit. I doubt that we will be welcomed back.

I recently stayed at Seatoller House with a group of close friends for a long weekend. We all found the stay extremely enjoyable and will definitely do it all again.
Nigel and Trish always were very professional but at the same time being very friendly. Nothing was a problem, they always had time for a smile and a chat.
Nigel made a point of coming to check that everything was satisfactory and to ensure that we had everything we needed. Enjoyed his company.
The food was first class, can't compliment Trish enough on the quality of her cooking.
Can't wait for a return visit.

We have spent several and different holidays with Nigel and Trish and we have loved it every time. The dinners are outstanding and the comany is always good, and Nigel and Tirrish go outof their way to accomodate everybody. We also celebrated a birthday there this year, and got a special dinner and a cake just for the occasion. Fabulous.

I am not sure why I bother leaving a comment, given that Seatoller House already has glowing reviews but here we go... I first came on a rambling weekend in June with a friend, while the second time in August was more leisurely, with my wife and children. On each occasion the house was full and we enjoyed everything that it has to offer: an unhurried and warm welcome by Nigel & Trish and Sean and Lucy, great food and company in the evenings, lovely bedrooms, the red squirrel, the list goes on... I cannot recommend the place enough and I hope to be back soon. Long may Nigel & Trish be in charge!

I booked Seatoller for my husband's surprise 40th (we had stayed with family previously) and arranged for four other couples to meet us there for a 2 night stay. Nigel was extremely helpful in keeping our friends arrival a secret, sneaking them through the back door. I chose Seatoller so that we could switch off and relax in the company of friends without the distraction of our children, mobile phones, tv, etc. We were very lucky to have a weekend of glorious sunshine, so the walk from Seatoller to Keswick via The Grange and Catbells was very enjoyable. The food was amazing and there was plenty of it and we probably consumed far too much alcohol and then chatted noisily in the sitting room each evening but this was not a problem. All in all, an extremely enjoyable, relaxing weekend in a stunning location - just not long enough. Will definitely visit again.

We have visited Seatoller House for a number of years and enjoy the friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere. The food is good and the ambience comfortable. It is ideal as a walking base.
The bathrooms are in need of updating and a stronger hot water supply but this is to be expected from an old house.
We have booked again for next year and expect to meet others who come back every year.

Room Tip: Choose an en suite room

Thankyou very much for taking the time to review Seatoller House, We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay, You mentioned the water supply and the fact the bathrooms need updating, you will be pleased to know that both of these are in the planning process already. The water supply phase will be carried out in winter 2014 and the new bathrooms the following year.

My wife and I started going to Seatoller on 1982 and we have not stopped since. We have seen six managers come and go, two bathrooms replaced with nine and now a home grown vegetable plot in the garden. The essential atmosphere of the House has not changed, with its friendliness, its sense of trust between staff and guest, its beautifully carved and ancient cupboards in the sitting room, its pictures of Lakeland and the photographs of the various 'hunts' on the walls. These take place at set dates throughout year and consist of games of 'tig' between 'hares' and 'hounds' across the fells, played by students and staff from our two oldest universities. The tradition goes back to the end of the nineteenth century as evidenced by entries in the quests books that go all the way back to then. The rest of the time the House is a guest house open to all. It is second to none. The rooms are comfortable while retaining their seventeenth century atmosphere. Blissfully there is no television or radio, and no telephones while its remoteness means our mobiles have no reception. For those who have to remain in contact Wi-Fi is available. The siting room is comfortable with an open fire at on end, plenty of games available in the cupboards and a library. The food has always been exceptional and generous to an extreme in quantity. The current managers, Nigel and Trish have added their own relaxed and friendly way to the House and it is now better than it has ever been. Guests help themselves to tea, coffee, drinks including spirits, wine and a good selection of beer, signing for them as they go. The only regret is that there is no alcohol free beer for those of us who do not drink. We go now as part of a group of friends who met each other at the house each year. We book one year to the next knowing it will be yet another highlight next year. Overall it deserves its place in the Good Hotel Guide as the best Guest House. We will be back next year.

Room Tip: We take the Bake house - previously known as the Potting Shed and the Bungalow as it is quiet and pr...
