This is a easy, fun day out from DC. The drive is not great, but once you have parked it's ideal. We went to see an art show at the Sporting Museum - lovely museum, terrific show (unfortunately the show closes this weekend) and charming, helpful people. We then wandered the town - very manageable. Lots of charming little shops - generally not for the budget-conscious, but most stores were having sales. It is the kind of place to find things you won't find in any mall. We did not see a single chain store. Had a simply wonderful lunch at The Red Fox - don't miss the goat cheese grits! This is not a good location for small children, but it's a very pleasant way to spend the day. Don't miss the little shops on the side streets either. Went to see the new Salamander resort - looks very posh. Liked downtown better - seems much more real.
