Description: Wild Wolf Brewing Company, established November 11, 2011, is one of just a few mother/son operations in the country. Danny, a classically trained Brewmaster by the Siebel Institute in Chicago, and his mom, a business savvy entrepreneur, have turned a family passion for craft beer into one of the fastest growing breweries in Virginia. The brewery and restaurant is situated in the heart of the Brew Ridge Trail and features a wide selection of hand-crafted beers as well as the freshest local foods in Central Virginia-all in a century old, revitalized Nelson County school house. The ten acre property features an authentic Biergarten, shaded by a protective canopy of 60-year-old Siberian Elms, including a charming gazebo, large Koi pond, and working water wheel. In addition, an outdoor pavilion has been enclosed to allow for a four season dining experience. The pavilion hosts live music every weekend year round. Inside the restaurant, guests are treated to a rustic dining experience, including wrap-around porches that provide stunning views of the surrounding mountains and property. Toward the back of the old schoolhouse guests enter the new building which houses a lively sports bar as well as our brewing facility.

“Still needs some fine tuning but great beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2012

Our waitress was wonderful but everything does move a slow pace here which is ok. The food was not bad. Oysters were really good. I enjoyed the grilled romaine with the chicken. The batter was crispy light almost as if some panko bread crumbs were mixed in. Shrimp and grits ok. wilted greens in it were the best part. Leave off the shrimp tails and go to a little larger shrimp. Maybe a little bacon and green onion garnish? I gave a VG due to the beers. Blond, amber, pumpkin barley wine all were great. Will come back next year to check it out!

“Amazing food, great beer and I'll be back with buddies!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2011

Very happy that this place is now open. I hear the brewery has been here for a little while, the restaurant open for about 6 weeks, the "sports" bar, less than 3. I decided to sit at the bar as it was pretty busy in the restaurant.

Atmosphere:
Love how they are re-purposing the buildings. Restaurant used to be the local school house. Hooray for recycling! Nice bar area w/ half a dozen or so tables. Two TVs and a projection screen doesn't REALLY equal a sports bar, but no biggie. Restaurant section looked very nice!

Service:
Have to comment on this before food and beer, cause, well, it took a LONG TIME for me to get any food or beer. Two people working the bar and all of the tables around it. There really needed to be more staff on hand. Very heavy growler fill business (which is wonderful) but there goes one bar tender. It might have been a little busy, but wait until ski season starts! I believe this will improve with more rehearsal time. Service alone killed at least one star on this review.

Beer:
Of the 7 samples, I really enjoyed 3 (which is about average for me at a brew pub). Autumn ale was my favorite. HUGE growler fill business as mentioned but I already had one full in the car from earlier in the day.

Food:
The food did come out quickly once it was finally keyed into the computer! Had the southern chix sandwich. This is absolutely a repeatable offense. The chicken was perfectly fried and the breading should be illegal. Add to this an onion slaw? and smoked paprika aoli...this was amazing. Other items looked like classics with a slight twist. I understand there are separate bar/dining room menus and a full dinner menu. Prices seem to be a little less than the other brewpub in town.

The Verdict:
I didn't feel the need to head to the backbone after this, but this is partially due to the 2+ hours I spent here. That is a wicked long time at any restaurant, especially when seated AT the bar. If I could click on 2.5 stars, I would. I will certainly be back and try the dining room next time.

“Nice addition to the area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 December 2011

Good beer although not as many choices compared to the two brewhouses 10 miles in either direction. Food is well prepared with a number of extra touches. Great fish and chips, good burger would be great if bun was toasted. Prices less than the competition without a drop in the quality.

“Another great brew pub in Nelson County”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

We have visited this brew pub three times since it opened on 11/11. We have found the service, food and beer all to be excellent. The fish and chips are the best I have had since I left Connecticut. They have done an excellent job with the conversion of an old schoolhouse as well as the buildings and property all around the restaurant. It is truly a pleasure to dine here.
