“"Where the locals eat seafood"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2012

Whenever we travel, my wife and I always seek out places the locals go to eat. Ray's Shanty is one of those little gems. Over a long weekend in Chincoteaque we found Rays and WOW, are we ever glad we did. I enjoy crab cakes and if they are on the menu that is my first choice. They were excellent--no need for tartar sauce on these babies---they were out of this world. My wife on the recommendation of our sweet southern girl waitress ordered the fresh fried scallops and yes--no need to cover these with any sauce either. The sides of home made cole slaw and fresh cut fries were very good and I can't forget the hush puppies--never better anywhere. Rays offers cheese cake for dessert with or without a topping. Yes, when we return to Chincoteaque we will definitely return to Rays.

“Always a Great Seafood Meal Here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2012

Ray's Shanty is our favorite Chincoteague vacation restaurant. Bit of a drive off the island but well worth it. The seafood is wonderful, excellent steamed shrimp, delicious blackened or marinated tuna, fried flounder is to die for, scallops are tender and juicy. There are no bad choices and the hush puppies are hot and just waiting to be buttered! The service is always friendly and efficient. In all the years we have eaten here, we have always been very pleased with every aspect our meal. The atmosphere is casually nautical and it looks like many locals dine here. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. You may need a box for your leftovers but they will be delicious too. Go and enjoy local seafood simply prepared and simply delicious.

“AYCE SHRIMP”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

Rays is another spot we like to get away from the traffic in the summer time of the Island. The AYCE Shrimp is dlectable and they keep em coming. Their cole slaw and hush puppies are the best I ahve eaten. Ray knows his shrimp! We refer all of our charter customers to eat there!

“Not a good start, but ended well!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2012

The entire restaurant was full when we got there, so we knew there'd be a long wait. We were a party of five and got a bit upset when a party of seven was seated before us and they (and others who were seated after us) were greated by their waitress before us.
However, not to worry - the food gets served very fast!
They keep cranking it out, hot and good. Everyone at the table was very pleased.
Worth the drive from Chincoteague.

“Great seafood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2012 via mobile

Ate here twice during our 6 days in Chincoteague. All you can eat steamed shrimp for $16.95 on Thursdays was fantastic. Shrimp were good size, head off, piping hot, and our server happily brought more, twice. And they don't skimp on seconds and thirds like a lot of AYCE places. Probably got more on my second plate than I did on my first! Scallops were the best I ever had. Hush puppies also. Servers aren't always the most attentive but the dining room is small so it is easy to get their attention. Well worth the 15-minute drive from Chincoteague, and the value is much better than the fancy places on the island.
