“Amazing!”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

I stopped here on the way to the Outer Banks with my mom and daughter. I knew my mom would love it from the pictures, but I was not expecting to fall in love with it myself. It not only lived up to the pictures but surpassed them. In fact the combination of the place and the hospitality was so great that we changed our return plans to include another night!

Room Tip: if you need two rooms the Lighthouse and Sandpiper share a porch!

Dorothee and Thomas are first rate hosts, felt welcomed and comfortable from the get go.
We were so pleased with the whole experience, room, grounds, cleanliness,we could not be happier.
Two adults, two young teenagers and a Maltese after a 9 hour drive and we were in need of an oasis and our wishes were granted.
It was everything we hoped for and will book again next year.

Lives up to it's terrific reviews. We live within a couple of hours and just did a quick overnighter for the wife's birthday. A we brought the crazy 18 month old Springer who fell in love with the back yard. Exceptional value

Our suite was terrific - comfortable and spacious. The private back yard was perfect for our dog. The grounds are very nice. Breakfast was great and the hosts are extremely friendly and accomodating. This was a perfect 2 night anniversary celebration for us. We would definitely return again.

We were looking for an easy getaway from our home in DC where we could bring the dog and just relax for a few days without camping. Doro and Thomas were very accomodating hosts and made us and our dog feel right at home. The property is a grassy oasis right off highway 13 in close proximity to chincoteague and assateague without being in the middle of the fray. They are delighted to share information on the local sites and provide delicious Germanic influenced breakfasts which were delivered to our door each morning.

We enjoyed lounging around the property, taking innumerable jacuzzi baths and slept better than we had in 6 months. Highly recommended for those interested in visiting the Eastern shore but not wanting to be in the middle of all the hubabaloo.

Dorothee and Thomas Renn came to the US from Germany in 2007, and they have found their mission to develop this Eastern Shore property into a beautiful B&B. There are several buildings on their property, plus a big wooded lot (approx. 5 acres) for a morning walk or rabbit spotting. Rooms are large, well appointed and clean. Home-made breakfast is served daily. Dogs can come, too - and they are provided blankets, treats, and water bowl. Snacks and port are available all day long, as are DVDs and books - good for a rainy day or after a long day at the beach. All is done with a great attention to detail and care - what's not to like about this place? America needs more of them!

We had a great stay at the Garden and the Sea Inn recently. We love to travel with our two dogs when possible and were glad to find this sweet spot on the Eastern Shore that welcomes dogs without any additional fees. We chose to go in Jan. when it was not crowded and very quiet. The daily breakfasts were delicious and Doro was very accommodating to our dietary requests. They have spent time to preserve the historic details of their property but have also made each suite comfortable. Their attention to detail both inside and outside of their inn is impressive. We also appreciated the recommendations for local vineyards, day trips and restaurants. We would definitely stay at the Garden and the Sea Inn again! Next time we will have to return when the gardens are in bloom and the pool is open..
